After 90+ days in the water, my transducer on my charter boat gets really crusted. And I've always wondered and been concern about how or if I could/should clean and or sand smooth the pits and other debris attached to it, and not loose any signaling powers of the unit. I found the answer on Lowrances support page.

Answer: When you can, clean the face of the transducer. Oil, dirt, and fuel can cause a film to form on the transducer, reducing its effectiveness.

Answer: We recommend hot water and soap to clean your transducer. If there are any scratches on the transducer, you can use fine sand paper to even them out.
