Location: Orland Park, IL | I have this 6'3 St. Croix legend and it just superb. Wanted a couple of backups, but hoping not to spend the big moolaa.
Dont see too man 6'3 out there. Not sure if its a custom job or what. I have been using the BPS Tourney Special in 6'0 medium, mod fast tip. I need something with a bit more backbone, and faster tip.
I used a 6'6 Premier Med Lite with Fast tip and was a bit wippy for my tastes.
Pete harsh had an article about the best quality of jiggin rods. Now the rods I have are good for reef fishing like winnebago, but verticle jiggin the rivers, something a bit more stout with fast tip is, I think, the way to go.
So, other than Gloomis and St croix, are 6'3 out there aftermarket? Or is this a custom special? |

| Techna 6.3" medium fast. Ask for Chris at Wolf River Sports and tell him Doc sent you and he should give you a good price. Retail around $159
Great Rod, cant buy better for the money. |

This is a great time of the year to "investigate" new equipment. The shows begin in three weeks, Arlington is Jan 4-7, and most of the major rod companies are represented. Good time to compare what is out there since you can go from booth to booth in a short time.
I like what would be decribed as a medium light with a fast tip... Since I use Fireline for my jigging rods I also look at the guides....
Another possible is Grandt Rods... very good quality and you can find almost anything you want.... |

Location: LaCrosse, WI | This is not a popular answer, but one of my all time favorite jigging rods is the Gander Mt. Guide Series Tournament edition 6' (I think it may be 6'3") ML with fast action tip. It's around $90 but I like it better than any Fenwick, St. Croix or Loomis that I've ever owned or used.
Again, this is all a preference thing, but I like the piece of mind of knowing that I can take this rod in and get a new one handed to me. I've had to wait 8+ weeks during tournament season for a replacement. I fish the Mississippi River as much as almost anybody and wouldn't be without my tournament series rod. I have a Berkly Series one that's allright as well, but the Gander stick gets the 1st vote every time. |

| i too stock my boat with guide series from gander . Im8 quality only!!! have two in my boat and two extra for my partner if i need to suply gear. i prefer a shorter stick easy to stay vertical . a little stif as most of my vertical fishing is in rivers and i use a heavy jig. remember if you feal them they feal you. i also have two 7 footers in my boat for slippry bobers . need to set the hook take up line fast with a bigger swing. also work great for pitching 8th ounce jigs when you need to get them far out from the boat. they are usualy on sale or buy one get another for half price .. wait for a sale they are a great value. and yes you still get upset when you break one. i also have a couple st. crox .. best of the best but get out the check book. i recoment 5 ft or 5' 6 inches medium fast tip little stiffer if you are going to use larger jigs think about where you will use them most . i have a garage full of rods waiting for there turn but its far and few between. |

| oh dont be afraid to buy one with a little faster tip .... you can always chop an inch off if it gets too mushy for your pref. stiffin it up a bit .. make sure the tip you replace it with is of the same or better quality as if you go a little cheeper it will feal like there is a wadd of gum on the end of your stick and it will drive you nuts. |

Location: Orland Park, IL | Thanks for all the input guys. Will be working it hard at the local shows. A contact mentioned the Pete Harsh series 6'3 Havent heard of that one. Looking for some more info on it. That shimano compre 6'3 is interesting. I like the fact you can put your fingeron the blank. Think this helps? or is too gadgety? |

| The Pete Harsh rod is a Fig Rig. I have several new Fig Rigs that I got last year for vertical jigging. Awesome rods. Light, balanced, sensitive, and balanced well. Kevin makes a great rod.

| I have a brand new rod made especially for walleye jiggin from Esox Rods. I helped with the design and it is awesome. The balance is just a bit tip heavy and that makes for an easy day of jiggin. No Fatigue. I will be at Chicago Show at the Rosemont for the Re-actionsystem. Let me know if you would like to see it? Dan Palmer |

| I second the Fenwick rods. I exclusively use the HMG AV rods and do my share of verticle jigging. I do use the 7' but I am sure the 6'3" is just as nice. Very light and titanium guides for your superlines. One tip I will give you is be sure to use a 1000 size reel or even smaller. You don;t need much line for vertical jigging and the light weight of the smaller reel is priceless;) |

Location: Jackson, Wisconsin 53037 | Take a look at the Walleye Angler series rods from Bass pro. The 6ft model is perfect for vertical jigging, very sensitive, I wouldn't use any other rod, and the price won't kill you. |
