It's actually pretty easy to catch Walleyes on Ganoes Reef in the winter. All you need is a chain saw and the ability to cut a straight path about a mile long. Next you have to be able to jog @ 1.1-1.5 MPH (boards are optional this time of year) along the stretch of open water you have just created.

It's been years since I had the energy to jog more than 1 pass, but let me know how you do, I may come out of retirement.

Keep in mind, you are allowed to run 3 lines even in winter, you just have to cut the 1 mile stretch 3 times as wide and then have 2 guys do the jogging. 3 lines will also requires one of you to run a board so the middle line does not cross over.

Watch out for the guys that cut a hole at a 90 degree angle to you hole, it's no dofferent than summer, they will be crossing you up all day.

I think those fish left for the river this fall already, either that or they went north.

Those fish are long gone but there is always the possibilty of catching few but perch are most cpommon out there this time of year. If you want walleyes fish the southern bay of gb this time of the year and if there is good ice i would highly recommend the university bay and kidney island area. good luck

TB

I'm not an Ice fisherman but do guys fish Ganoes and do they fish deep or near the reef. I know my buddies are catching fish in the river on the ice near the dam, Never done that before either. They invited me a couple of weeks ago to fish with them in the river out of a boat, but I passed. Wish I would have gone with them, they caught some nice fish in the river.

Does anyone else fish the river through the ice?

Which river?

I've fished the Fox River through the ice many times. Kinda fun, setting the hook on a fish through 2+ feet of ice, 20 feet or less from somebody setting the hook in a boat on the open water!

Like I menentioned, I've never ice fished, but I was asking aboth the Fox River in Depere. I've driven over the bridge a few times, but I've only visited there in Spring when there were lots of boats on the river.
