"a new month, Feb. 2nd. Bay's report;"

good ice conditions being seen from the north end (Days River DNR access's both north and south) Vagabond Resort, Hunter's Point and Kipling DNR launch all having very good access and ice thickness varying between 6" to 12".
The narrows beyond the Gladstone Yacht Club, Beach House and Lakeshore Drive access too having ice thickness between 6" to in some places 10".
Terrace Bay private access (here getting a daily/yearly pass at the Motel) also seeing good ice.
Escanaba River access and ice thickness between 4" and 8".
Escanaba Harbor and good ice to 10", south off the beach and Band Shelter ice depending on the area averaging 4" to 8" and more.
(Several ice cracks visible and watch for ship travel,)

Fishing Reports:
WALLEYE:
BAITS: jigging Raps, Shad Raps, JB spoons and live-bait. (COLORS; PERCH, CHART. GLOW, BLUE & CLOWN)
PRESENTATIONS: jigging using medium action rods, 6 to 8 pound lines varying jigging style. Tipping jigs with minnow heads and fishing plain. Tip-ups set with shiners/sucker minnows between 4 and 6 inches long.
LOCATIONS: working those weed edges and breaklines but don't overlook the shallow water areas especially early morning and evening as many of these fish will move shallow to feed!

PERCH:
BAITS: small Raps, spoons, tear-drop jigs and plain hook rigs. (COLORS: BRIGIHT ORANGES, REDS, SILVER SPOONS)
PRESENTATIONS: light tackle, line and seems vary little movement on the jigs getting the most fish. 1" perch minnows and wigglers the baits of choice it seems. (Rosie Red 1" minnows taking some nice "jumbo's!"
LOCATIONS: water depths seem to be from 10 to 25 feet of water and some anglers telling us finding schools of active fish "suspended" off bottom 5 to 6 feet feeding.
Dying weedbeds and sandy shallows too are good spots to try.

NORTHERN PIKE:
BAITS: best bites coming off live-bait using large shiners, suckers and dead-bait (smelt) with tip-up sets.
LOCATIONS: Finding weedbed edges and the deep breaks where fish are chasing baitfish.
Spearers having fun as well.

WHITEFISH:
BAITS: small minnows and dead bait on bottom
LOCATIONS: the deeper water edges relating to bottom, some fish being reported caught off the Escanaba Light House areas and Terrace Bay drop-offs.

OVER VIEWING THE LAST DAYS OF FISHING AND I'VE ONLY BEEN OUT 2-TIMES THIS WEEK AND ON BOTH OCCASIONS LOOSING SEVERAL HOOKED FISH.

A COLD-SNAP IS COMING IN FOR THE WEEKEND! WE'LL KEEP YOU POSTED TO THE BITE!
