| Any good places to get info? Maybe even some video would be awesome.
Looking for the basics on what I would need to tie some harnesses for Green Bay, Fox River and Little Sturgeon area's.
Blade size, type ,color, # of beads, bead size, # of hooks and hook size. And the info on line type ,size, distance between hooks. Quick change clevis's or not etc.
Again only for these specific area's are what I need as this is where I fish and would like to keep it relatively simple.

| Dave, Just a few of my own thoughts on crawler harnesses on the bay... I spend quite a bit of time where you mentioned you are going to fish. On the bay I use a #2/0 Owner SSW with CUTTING POINT hooks. They are razor sharp and I have not lost a fish on a solid bite in the last 2 years. My basic setup is a 5 foot leader in 20# Vanish with a barrel swivel to reduce twist. I like the larger diameter line because it prevents linetwist in your harness when the nightcrawler comes off the second hook and starts to spin. For beads, I use 6 below the blade and 1 above to catch any small weeds, 6mm clear plastic beads. I use 2 single hooks per harness with 3 inches between the hooks. I attached a pick of the colors that produced lots of fish for me last year. I will vary my bead and blade color, but I will always run a firetiger Northland Baitfish and a Purple of some kind every trip. I run #5 Colorado blades with plastic quick change clevises. Northland blades are avaliable everywhere, I also get a lot of stuff from Doit corp. online. Sportsmans in DePere has a great selection of everything you need. As for learning how to tie, buy a harness tool, read the instructions and start tieing. It's easy to do Dominic

That is what I was looking for - I was getting nervous looking at all the options,sizes,colors etc.
I will be hitting Sportsmans during lunch tomorrow. Saw a few crazy's launching into the open water at metro while driving over the 43 bridge this afternoon...not long now  |

| Mark, Those are the small 2" squids from Cabelas. I used them a couple of times last year over the beads on my harnesses. I had a period of about 10 days last year on Bago out in the mud that the Blue/Green Squid along with a Blue/Silver Northland #5 Holigraphic blade and a 3/8 oz weight 45 feet back produced some very nice Walleyes in the 18-24 inch range. It was just before and just after the Otter Street Tournament. I remember a couple of the guys that were fishing the tournament came upside of me and asked me how I was catching fish. I'm not a tournement guy, but I wish I would have been that weekend. It was the hot setup for me last summer during that period before I switched over to running crankbaits. I'm going to try them much earlier this year. I was also using them with the wiggle disks. I tried them several times on the bay last year and did well on some days and blanked on other days. Location: Menasha, WI | btobuck, They sell a tool at Scheel's and probably most other big box retailers - Rudy's Snell Tyer about $10. I bought one and tried it but it thoroughly frustrated me. I can tie them faster and better by hand than I could with the tool. I took it back and exchanged it for 3 Flicker Shads  |

| great info guys... I've been trying to snell hooks and I just can't get it right... bought a knot book and still can't pull it off... looking to snell with 15-20# test... would one of these tools help? thanks... |

| On the Fishing 411 tv show this week Mark shows you how to tie a Dupont snell as part of a spinner rig without the use of any tools. I've been doing this for years it very easy. There is another version I've been tying for years but dont know what its called. Dont know if there is a web site for the tv show.... maybe google??? for the show and or the DuPont snell.

| There is a class at Sportsman's Warhouse in De Pere. WI on February 5, 2009. It starts at 6 pm. From what I understand, Scott "Axl" Ehricke, one of our own Walleye First guys, will be there teaching you how to tie your own harnesses. The class is free and could be useful to us all. I will be there and hope to meet some of you there as well. I saw it on the Sportsman's Warehouse website, so I am looking forward to it. Maybe there you can learn how to tie your own harnesses and get a little insight. Just some food for thought for you all........ |

| Here's a great way to Store 100 Crawler Harnesses in a Plano #26330 Box. Take pipe insulation and cut into 6 " pieces. Cut Plexiglass into strips 6" x 1 & 3/4" wide. Smooth edges of Plexiglass and round corners to avoid tearing insulation while inserting. Wet both pieces while inserting Plexiglass. Use a 2" stick pin on top edge to secure harness end. (hooks on other end). The flat harness holder is durable and handy and each will store 12 large harnesses. I've used mine for 4 seasons and they work great. I wanted a way I could keep 100 harnesses for each body of water I fish in one box. Purple Skeeter

Location: Lake Erie | I use something similar but alot more expensive, magnum rig box by B&B Bait boxes I can fit almost 200 if I fill every spot including the side areas meant for a tackle boxes I just put 3 more noodles on each side, or leaders. R&R Tackle has new blade colors coming out and just rolled out a couple new series, they are great blades I had alot of success on them last year on Erie.

| I also use the B&b boxes. I cut a 1/8" deep slot all the way around the noodle. (Just spin it on the table saw) I space them out 5/8". Keeps the harnesses more neat and organized for me.

Yes, and you can see at a glance where you have space for another harness. The line gets wound into the slot and is not exposed to get nicked by the blades while bouncing around in storage.
If you try it I bet you'll like it. |

| Try pro choice fishing .com or erie outfitters .com a lot of these blades are graet for green bay; antifreeze, redeye, baby walleye, seykas perch,gold muffin, I have spent a great deal of time in Green Bay with these blades in the design stages. These web sites both have everything from hooks, blades clevises, beads in all sizes I would suggest 6mm beads and #6 blades.
