| I talked to an uninformed (he kept paging someone else for answers) sales person at a major sports store today about what chip was best suited to my circumstance. I fish 75% on the Winnebago system and 25% on lakes in the Rhinelander/Eagle River area. He indicated the Lakemaster chip was better for Winnebago and the Navionics chip was better for the more northern lakes. I had to reel him back in more than once because he kept suggesting Navionics because it had Erie and LBN on it which is not important to me. I'm a little unsure at this point and looking for advice. thx Bill | |

Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | All The chips are all very good for Bago. Some will be in more detail, some will have lines slightly different, bottom line is it just doesn't matter which one you get, they will all get you to the major structure, even older versions. Whos to use is a personal decision.
As far as eagle river, I ask you, how much time have you on these lakes you intend to fish? The MAJOR store you were at would have allowed you to view the lakes you fish and you could have seen the differences for your self. If you have never fished them, then every chip out there will be great. Why you ask? Because you have no benchmark on which to judge the performance of any of the chips against. The clerk would have only been giving you his personal opinion if he had ever been on the same body's of water with a chip in use.
See where I am going with this. just like ford CHEVY and dodge, everyone one has a opinion on what is best and what is not. I have found you just need to try them out, none are bad, thats for sure. Also remember that when structure is marked on the chips it is but a starting point and they should never be used for sole navigation around reefs and land masses.
Pick out the one YOU like and find easy to read. You will have more than one after time anyhow, ask some of the guys around here. | |

| Thanks for the input. I went to Gander at noon today and received eager friendly service which resulted in a purchase. I believe it was Derek that helped me. He did exactly what Stacker said. He opened a package and put it in a hand held unit for me. He then opened the list of lakes and it also had Pelican with the one foot contours and in addition had all of the other lakes I wanted with the 3' contours. Now all I need is excuse 1 million and 1 to get away from work and out on the water to try it out. | |

| I would just like to add, for those considering contour chips, to check on the chips zooming capability. Some are capable of zooming in more, which to me, is very important. | |
