I was thinking about getting some time in on Erie around the Kelleys Island area in early April. I was wondering about the ice conditions at this time, should I try to plan for later April. I have a PMTT tournament the first weekend of April and then want to squeeze in a trip to Erie. Any info would be helpfull.

Mike- I talked to a friend that guides lake Erir and he said the ice is a general 16-20" and thought that if they had a good warm week with some rain it should look good by the first or second week in April. I'm heading there the second week so I hope it starts going soon. Don't really know what to expect with this weather. Good luck if ya go. BIG FISH

I've been going for the past eight years and each year seems to get better. We have been going in March every year and then again July and late Sept. I personally like the fall fishing better. Where areas do you hit in the spring and what presentations do you use. The past two years we have been doing more trolling with cranks and crawler harnesses mostly around Niagara reef and to the N.E. Once in awhile we will go towards the islands but usually don't have to. If you want your limit of eaters we head out to Maumee bay. Good luck if ya get out. I'll let you all know how we did once I get back.
