Subject: Kicker for Triton 189

I've purchased a 2000 Triton 189 and am looking to install a yamaha kicker. I'm looking for advice/info on what size and style. Also do I need a long shaft for this boat? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure a Triton will handle a big motor along with a kicker motor?

I'm not sure of the shaft size needed. Maybe contact Triton or a Triton Dealer for that info...The 2000 189 that I had was rigged with a 9.9 Johnson on a Panther lift...if you are going to go with Yamaha go with the T8...if your main motor is Mercury...go with the Mercury Pro-Kicker....Plenty of 189's out there with kicker motors...

Trophy10 the 189 has a 20" transom. I had a 2001 189 with a v-max 175 and a t-8. I never had any cracks or any other problems with mine. You wont be sorry you bought one. Triton makes one of the nicest boats out there.

Mount a 20" T-8n or a Merc Pro kicker right an the transom
and you will love it. Don't listen to the BS about transoms cracking
with akicker. I owned 3 of them and still know the guys that
bought them and there has been NO issues. Best price a Pro-kicker
I found is at American in Shawano.ask for Manny

Thanks for the input. I will go with the t-8. I had just seen that they come in the 20" and 25" and wasn't sure which was considered the long shaft. If you had a 20" on your boat that answers my questions. Thanks again.
