| I have a x135 on the bow of my boat, and I would like to go to a mapping/sonar combo and just had a few questions. I fish alot, small tournaments, weekly 15 boat leagues...etc etc. Anyways, is there advantages/disadvantages of having a big unit like a LCX-27 or similar compared to having like a LMS 522 other than size on the bow??? I have an LCX-20c that I was thinking of moving to the bow, and then getting a Lcx-27c for the console, but would I have the same results other than size of course if I left my Lcx-20 on the console, and got a LMS 522 for the bow? My 135 gets bounced around some and also maybe worry a little big about having a 6'' or bigger unit on the bow? Any concerns or any advice? As far as money goes, the Lcx-27 is quite a bit more, but, cant take it with ya either...So...Any advice? |

Location: Manitowoc, WI | I can tell you an example of why to have a bigger unit on the bow. This spring my LCX-111c HD went out on me on Lake Erie during the FLW Tour event. I had another 111 on the bow at that time. I turned on the other unit and already had my GPS coordinates as backup in the sbow unit. With the bigger screen it allowed me to travel to my spot using the unit on the bow. Once I made it to my area I lowered my bowmount trolling motor and used the GPS/Sonar from that unit until I could figure out what was wrong with the unit on the console. |

| That makes sense I guess...Never really thought of that reasoning. Any other help from people that have either bigger units on the front or smaller 5'' models up front?

Location: Lincolnshire, IL | I have a 135 as well as a 3600C iGps on the front. 2x 5" Stand alone units on Ram Mounts work well for me..they are all networked. Why did I go this way..cost, etc. nothing wrong with a 111 on the front tho, in fact if money were not an option, I would go that route! But since you have a 135 you could add the gps stand alone for not a bunch more and you will have a good set up in my opinion. Watch the classifieds..I may have a 4900M gps for sale in the very near future. Black and white like the 135 but with a 7" screen. |

| I had an X25c on the bow of my old boat, and liked it very much. I think the 111 on the bow is a little overkill for most people. Not saying I wouldn't do it if I had the money, just not necessary unless you are a Pro Tournament fisherman like Jerry. I love jig fishing, so I liked having the bigger screen up front. My current boat just has the LMS-520. It took a little while to get use to it, but it works fine for now. I will probablly sell it this winter and upgrade to an X27c. Two units up front is not a bad idea as well. The only down side is if you travel for tournaments or fun with your boat. When I stay in a hotel over night, I take all my graphs off over night. You wouldn't think so, but it does kind of become a pain in the butt putting them on and taking them off everyday. An extra graph sometimes means an extra trip which is not fun after a LONG day of fishing. Just my opinion. |

| I cant afford a 111 or 113 by any means but I was debating a LCX27c or comparible unit. The lakes I fish are very shallow, 10 feet and less in most spots, and I dont do alot of vertical jigging so, whats underneath me directly in the bow most of the time doesnt much matter. I pitch cranks to shore, and pitch jigs around weeds and stucture, and contour troll alot...But casting shorelines or the edges of reefs can be hard and dangerous without a plotted trail to see where you are suppose to be, after you say catch a fish or get a new leech or whatever. Just curious other than money what I can accompish by getting the smaller mapping/sonar unit like the 522 or 525. |

| I have an X111 on the console, and a 334 on the boaw. When I am running, I put a compass overlay on the bow unit. When I get there, I simply put the display on Sonar, if I am on the bow mount. If I need to follow a contour, or plot trail, then I use a split screen. This has worked well for me. If I wanted to afford a 27 for the front, I would have it. Bigger is better to a point. I think an X-111 would get in my way.
I think you'd be oK with the 20 up front, and a new 27 of 37 on the console. Much better resolution, and less glare with the new units. Better for the console. |

| If you have humminbird units you can just swap them round if one goes out! Quick release mounts rock! |

| Hey Shep~
With the split screen the 334 is still plenty big to see your trail and everything when up on the bow running your bow mount? I mean it makes sense to me to buy the 522 or like unit, but was wondering peoples thoughts on size and such!!! Thanks |

| I usually size the screens so the sonar is a bit narrower than the GPS screen when in split. I really only want to know depth and bottom content, and I can get that on a narrow sonar screen. While I wouldn't mind a bigger screen, I do just fine with the 5" up front. I do a lot of muskie fishing, and rely on that unit whenever I am casting. |
