Here is what I know and what has been told to me the past few days.
Perch are everywhere right now and the bite is very good in the early morning. Most are using either crawlers or Hellgrammites and finding the perch too be very close to the bottom. Deadsticking and slip bobbers seem to be the presentation of choice for most. There has been a lot of boats in and around the blackbird reef area, but recently i went from Menasha to Kalbus reef and there were perch jerkers all along the west shore.

Walleyes have slowed down some, and this is pretty typical this time of year. Trolling has really gotten slow both on the rocks and out in the mud. We recently trolled from Davis point to Garlic Island and all we had was one sheep for our efforts. We really were concentrating on transition areas and following depth contours and had little luck. I did hear of a few people getting some fish trolling in and around the mouth of the fox river this past weekend. Hot and Tots and Flicker shads seem to be what they were hitting on.

Jigging the reefs this week has been really hit and miss, one day we are slamming them and the next day it really is slow. On Saturday we were on good fish, including a bonus 36.5 inch Northern Pike. This came off of Mansur Reef. I was kind of shocked to see this pike here. We took some pics and let her swim for another day.

Stevens Reef is doing well for perch in the AM, and then the sheeps really seem to move in.

Kalbus Reef is full of boats and most seem to be perch fishing.

The outer bar has a lot of boats on it as well, but most are gone by 10 or 11 am. I tried fishing here on Monday and we only had a few sheeps and no perch or walleyes.

The north end of the lighthouse reef was working while drifting using jigs and crawlers or leeches. We did get a few walleyes here. This area always seems to be good when you have a light east wind.

Gehrkes Reef has several boats on it as well, but it seems that a lot of guys are really not on top of it, but further away and having good luck for perch.

Asylum point is giving up some perch on the finger that extends out from the point. Smallies are also here in good numbers closer to shore.

Stockbridge to Quinney is probably your best bet for trolling right now as the water seems cleaner there. Remember to try and go a little bigger if your using cranks right now. Now is the time to run #7 Shad Raps and #7 Flicker shads. The bait fish have grown up and you need to go a little bigger and a little slower to trigger a strike.

Ok, so now your questions and comments to me..........................................................

Axel, I saw you took 55th in the MWS Tourney, how many teams were in that one total?

There were 123 boats total. It was a tough day for us, we were on nice fish on both Saturday and Friday before the Tourney, as most were, and on Sunday, we only managed to catch 3 fish over 15 inches. We did have close to 25 walleyes total that day though.

Thanks for the tips on where to go to get some perch. My daughter and I had a lot of fun after you left the reef and we had close to 30 keepers that afternoon.

I am so glad you had fun, and it is cool that your daughter fishes with you. My daughter used to go along with me as well, but then she discovered boys, and Dad was not cool anymore. Treasure these times in the boat, soon they grow up!!!

Are you fishing the tops of the reefs or the sides when fishing for walleyes right now?

I am fishing the sides about 70 feet away from the top and letting my bait slide down the reefs. The fish will shoot up from the bottom of the reef and hit your jig.

Scott, What is your best walleye ever taken out of Lake Winnebago?

2 years ago, while trolling with my stepson, we had a 28.5 inch walleye. It was caught near firelane 7 on the north end in 16 feet of water and it was on a firetiger Storm Shallow running thunderstick 120 feet behind the boards. I will never forget that day since it was my best ever.

What type of fishing line do you use while jigging? I am always losing jigs on the reefs and wanted to change or try new line?

If you are going to use a mono line you are going to lose jigs if you are dragging your jigs along the bottom. I currently use Berkley Trilene XL 8 pound test. I used to use 6 pound, but switched to 8 pound to try and save a few more jigs as well. The Zebra mussels are very sharp and really no mono line will hold up through all the abuse of those pesky critters.

Axl, When is the best time of day to try and get some walleyes right now. I am really not having any luck out there.

I think the key right now is to move and move often until you find an active school of fish. Too many people sit in one spot for too long. If we do not have a fish in 30 minutes, we move and go to the next spot. You generally can tell within a few minutes or a few casts on wether there is active feeding fish or not.

I can sum up the report for the lower bay of Green Bay for Monday...

Zero, Nada, Zilch... 5am till 2pm on Sunday and not a single hit....

Beautiful day, perfect conditions, dreams of fighting monster Walleyes as I got up at 3:30 in the morning to meet a fellow Walleyefirster at the Suamico landing at 5:00 am and then a long day of chasing with nothing to show. We tried deep & shallow and all the colors that have produced in the last month and ended up with 2 catfish and 4 perch.

I feel your pain PS. We fished the lower bay hard and only found 2 takers on Fishlander clown/gold blades. Marked lots of fish but they were tight lipped. Shep must have caught them all.

We did the same as Purple Skeeter. We had 3 other boats with me and only one 18 inch walleye was caught, and that was on a crankbait. Real slow overall on Monday.

Sounds tough out there right now but there's always someone who catch's fish. The genoea's area has been so beaten up past few years so you might wanna go out and find some new area!

I'm not sure if you can beat up an area the size of Lake Winnebago, because that's how big the area described as Ganoes is. 50 Guys can fish the same area and never get close top one another.

I agree the fishing was much better a few years ago and if you ask me the fish were a lot bigger. I was out last night though and managed about a dozen fish by myself so I do not think the fishery is in any trouble. There sure seems to be a abundance of 20-22'' fish this year.

Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere
bago report wed, went out yesterday morning intent on catching some eyes ,, fished from 6;45-almost 11 am and got our ten, had to jump 7 humps on the east shore , picking up a fish or two a spot, two came on a perch dead stick off the back of the boat ,, the rest pitching crawlers. didnt try leaches at all. had one over 20 inches and one about 17 the rest around 13- 14inches, then we hit a few perch spots and found the fish soft bottom 14-15 feet , grabbed 20 of them in about an hour,, all better size 9-9.5 , at about noon it was getting a bit hot , a true ball bubbler as the nice southern breez was down to about 5mph so we split , a good day,, great time of the year to get somone out perch fishing , but the september eye fishing for anyone who know s winnibago can be great , the trick is to keep moving... your not going to find large schools of fish in most cases just one here or there, too much spring hatch forage getting to that prefered walleye bite size . the eyes dont have to school up to eat, just cruz or lay around alone or in pairs and wait.. the weather is great the air and lake smell good . oh we also did catch about 5 magnum white bass about a dozen small mouth ( maybe 3 over 14 inches and our usual 20 sheephead it seamed. so about 6 dozen crawlers got chewed up pretty quick..
