Well we where at the county fair and Toyota had some vehicles there, they had a Tundra double cab, went over and looked at it, had the CP with and the 2 boys.

Sat in it jockeyed the seats around, found that the rear seat on the double cab was rather roomy compared to my 02 F 150 ext cab, both me and my oldest could sit in te back seat and have the front seat in a comfortable position.

My F150 rear seat is just to short.

The Cp liked the interior layout, and the feel.

I really need a 6 1/2 bed.

So anyway stopped bay the local dealer, all they had was DC with a 4.7L, took it for spin, very nice truck, rode nice, handled nice and was comfortable.

They are getting a 5.7L in next week, going to try that one.

But the CP said it is possible to go with a new ride

I've put 15,000 miles on my new Tundra this year and I highly recommend it to anybody. The power of the 5.7 is what got my attention initially, it's the strongest gas engine I've ever driven. But after owning it for a while things like the suspension, big brakes, ground clearance and gas mileage have made me appreciate it even more. Oh yeah, and the Toyota Rewards are nothing to sneeze at either! If anybody has specific questions about the truck I'd be happy to answer. I'm not sponsored by Toyota, just love the truck so far.

P.S. Highway driving at 70-75mph I get 17mpg, towing the boat averages 13mpg.

I just drove one off and on for 2,000 miles and I was very impressed. It took awhile to get used to almost every switch being the opposite of my chevy but I overcame.

We got 17-19 mpg mainly in hwy and interstate use. Low was 16 and high was 20 on a tank. When passing vehicles on hwy's that were wet I couldn't keep the wheels from breaking loose there's so much power! It sure has every bit of 385 hp!!!! or whatever they say and it does jump up quick from 60-65 mph.

I am worried about ong thing, a good friend is a GMC dealer and he said that they only have a 4 star crash rating, the Big 3 all have 5 stars. He added it's because of lacking a fully boxed frame.

I could be wrong and if I am I apologize but that would significantly dampen my enthusiasm. At the very least I'd research it.

Toyota certainly appears to have made a great product and you can guarantee whatever shortcomings the market finds they'll improve on. It's relentless for them it seems.

I now have 10,000 miles on a 07 Tundra with 5.7. The power, ride and handling are all excellent. The gas mileage is another story, 14-15 highway (empty, no boat) on a good day. My dealer tells me this is normal. The Tundra is a heavy duty truck and in my mind is almost a 3/4 ton. The ride empty is a little stiff but not too bad. I think that I would have been better off buying a Ford or Chevy, and putting the extra $5000 toward a new boat. Tundras are kind of expensive and the dealers don't give you the discounts or rebates like the American companies.

I cleared the computer on the last tank and averaged 18.8 on the highway at expressway speeds 3/4 of the time and 60 MPH 1/4. That's what I get back as reports from most everyone else, so yours sounds like you need to clear the computer and see what she does, or get her in for a check up. I saw a price quote yesterday that was for a completely loaded maxi with everything you can get on her; it was very comparable to the Ford and the Chevy.

The truck has been at the dealer several times for warranty work and to look into the mileage situation. Also, when you combine Ford's X plan and the factory rebates a nicely equiped F-150 was over $5000 cheaper. The Tundra is a good truck, but I don't think it is worth the price of admission.

Your gas mileage results are certainly not what I see and hear from the rest of the folks running the new Tundra. The F150 I saw priced was within a grand, and didn't have as nice a seat, IMHO. The comparison was a LOADED Toyota Tundra Maxi and and F150. The Toyota had more cockpit and interior storage and comes with a few more toys, and when all was said and done both were about the same. NO QUESTION the Tundra has better acceleration both towing and empty. As far as I could tell, the Toyota was also a bit better as far as cockpit noise from the road, and better with wind noise, too.

A friend just went through the comparison; he tells me it looked to him like Toyota was using Ford and GM as a 'price barometer' to price the Tundra, the prices were so close.

Do you have the 5.7 TRD model? Post a picture of that bad boy! Let's see your Toyota Tundra...mine is getting re-decaled as we speak and images will be up Monday.
