When trolling spinners with in-line or keel weights, where do most of you put the weight(bait side of the leader/snell or by the main line or other).

I use a snap swivel to the main line and attach the in-line weight to this. Then I add the crawler harness to the in-line. If the in-line does not have a quality snap swivel for attaching the harness, I'll add one. Not all in-lines or keel weights are created equal. Some will cause line twist.

The length of the spinner rig should not be any longer than, with the weight reeled to the tip with the rod, in its collapsed position for storage, and still be able to hook your last hook on the reel. capiche'?

I agree with Stacker on the harness length. I generally start with arms length (about 6') and by the time I trim after putting on hooks and swivel it ends up being about 5 1/2'. For the rods I use, it works when they are collapsed.

I usually set my leaders from rod tip to the reel minus 6 inches.
