Welcome all NTC Teams to LaCrosse, WI!

~message by Dale Radliffe- Director of Mighty Miss Walleye Series~

Currently Pools 7,8, and 9 has an excellent walleye fishery composed of the large Lake Onlalaska on Pool 7, to the vast channels and winding backwaters of Pools 8 and 9. The Black River, LaCrosse River, and Root River all converge near LaCrosse making it a very diverse fishery.

The river has several strong year classes of walleyes and saugers with many fish in the 20" plus class, with some occasional bruisers over ten pounds. Typical May weights are in excess of 20#'s in a four fish limit on our circuit Mighty Miss Walleye Series. https://www.facebook.com/Mighty-Miss-Walleye-Series-113387162017786/

The water is quickly receding from a late Spring here in the Coulee Region, so things are slightly delayed about two weeks in the walleye world. The spawn wrapped up in the past week, so many female walleyes will be just coming out of a recovery period ready to put the feed bag on. This event dates should coincide perfectly where an expected 4-5 pound average will be the norm to cash a place in the money.

Side and back channels and immediate wingdams adjacent to spawning grounds should concentrate the majority of the best walleyes. Techniques such as long line or lead-core trolling Shad Raps, Flicker Shads, and Walleye Divers in bright colors will be popular. Locals here will be certainly using Willow Cats or Stone Cats on a short Lindy rig and sweeping them in front of the face of wingdams for the largest females. Licensed / legal willow cats will be available at Island Outdoors (French Island), Fat Cats (Trempealeau), and Clements Bait Shop (Genoa). Often in our events, these little "madtom catfish" live bait offerings bring in the heaviest bags. Be sure to have a receipt if using these from these shops on the river to be fully legal in Wisconsin.

LaCrosse is an excellent location for this event and please bring your family and friends with you. As the city who hosts Oktoberfest annually, has the Worlds Largest Six Pack of Beer, and Weinerfest (this weekend) we like our beer, wine, and German food here! There are awesome parks for your family to explore and camp at, and excellent shopping options too for the wives and girlfriends. The city is also very kid friendly with a great Children's Museum and host of other local activities. Please, bring them with you to enjoy all the community has to offer during your prefishing time.

As Executive Tournament Director of MMWS I hope you enjoy your stay at LaCrosse / Onalaska and the other local host communities.

We hope you fully enjoy your visit to "God's Country".

The walleye fishing is excellent, but as you will find; everything else may hook you more! Enjoy your stay and know your welcome back anytime!

Tight Lines,

Dale Radcliffe
