Hi All - I just picked up my new Lund Impact about two months ago and I am looking to add a kicker motor now.

In doing some research, it seems like 9.9 Mercury's are the most popular. I'm thinking about going that route. Any idea what speed 9.9 HP will get an appx. 18 ft boat up to trolling? I may do some musky trolling and need to get up to about 6 mph in that case.

Also, I see long shaft and short shaft, however, I am not real sure on which one I will need. Last question... I see pro-kicker and regular 4 stroke, does it make that big of a difference?

You'll be hard pressed to get to 6. Maybe it will get there.
Get the ProKicker Long shaft, tiller. Then add a speed control, like Troll Pro, or there are some others.

The 9.9 pro kickers are geared such that they push 6-7 mph on my 1975 Pro V. It'll only go a little faster on a 1775.
