 Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | After yesterdays successful fishing trip (Finally) I called a few charter clients last night that I've been putting off because of the tough bite, who have also been waiting to hear from me that the bite was on. My decision to do so was fraught with mixed feelings. I now know that catching a few in the river channel is very possible using the right things. In fact, one of my buddies hit the river channel at 7:00am this morning using both downriggers and lead Core and had their 3rd fish in the boat by 8:00am when I called him. But these more refined techniques also involve learning some special things that must be mastered or the trip could turn into a one snag/one lure after the other disaster for both the Captain and the clients. Most charter clients I take are not really here to spend good money on a single day of intense or refined fishing lessons or techniques that they might or might not ever master. But to have a good time and allow the Captain to show them the best and easiest way to catch a few fish. This was the dilemma part. Would the fish in or near the channel cooperate again today using traditional trolling gear and techniques in the easiest way possible? Yup......they would. But not to waste post space, here is a picture of just how busy it gets around here on opening day. This was taken at the Sandford Dam launch last Saturday. Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | This Omish launch site is the worse place to launch and fish from on any given day, let alone spring time. The launch is very steep and 99% of the walleye would have already worked their way downstream from the dam and this location by the opener date. Here's a better idea of what it's like 32 miles downstream in just one corner of the Saginaw River. And this opener was a cold and rainy day. Edited by walleye express 4/30/2014 2:19 PM
