CASE AND OLSON WIN BAGO WALLEYE CLUB EVENT BY TROLLING UPRIVER

With another full field of 65 boats, it would take a mixed bag of techniques and locations to take one of the top three places in the second tournament of the year for the Bago Walleye Club.

Even though they boated their first walleye on Lake Winnebago twenty minutes after wetting a line, and a second fish soon after, Jeremy Case and Jason Olson decided to head upriver for the possibility of bigger fish.

The move panned out, as they found a school good enough to bring five fish weighing 19.17lbs to the scale. While they had been pitching jigs tipped with crawlers and leeches to the shallow shorelines on Winnebago, the trolling gear came out upriver. Trolling bright colored cranks in 5-8 feet of dingy colored water was the key to their success.

The second place team of Jon Boedecker and Brad Vetter, decided to fish memories by heading to the river with jigs and crawlers. They simply worked the jig by pitching and drifting breaklines. Most of their fish came early, with five in the box by 9:30am. They had to switch to pulling in the afternoon to catch their last weigh fish. The five fish they brought to the scales weighed 18.74lbs.

Shaun Kahut and Brett Walser took third place by trolling spinners over 19 feet of water. In addition to being honed in on a specific color, it was crucial to keep the bait high in the water column. They went through 40 fish throughout the day with five big fish in the box by 9:30am. Their last big fish came at 2:15pm, giving them a total of 17.60lbs for the tournament.

The next tournament is July 20th out of Oshkosh.
