Although the temps were up considerably this morning into the low 40's, the wind chill added an interesting element to the take off...everyone was bundled up more than usual.

The field was actually excited ( as in happy, believe it or not) that the winds are forecast to gust over 30 mph this afternoon. The pre-fish bite was windy, and wind driven current was a big factor in catching the larger walleyes.

Lead core Flicker Shads and rip jigging are the techniques we'll hear about this afternoon on the stage.

A ten pounder added to what otherwise would be a 24 to 26 pound limit has been the key to the taking the lead. It will be interesting to see how many of that class come to the stage today. Pretty much anyone in the top 5 have a shot at this.

Weigh in starts at 4 PM.

WalleyeFIRST coverage of the MWC is brought to you by Lund Boats and Mercury Outboards.

They did it again.

Korey just won the NWT Championship a few weeks ago, and the Team that started his meteoric rise to the top of competitive Walleye angling sneaked up and blasted out a win today on Devils lake.

Korey and Derek pulled lead core with 20# Fireline leader material to get through some of the snags, tied to number 7 Berkley Flicker Shads at 1.5 to 1.8 banging the bottom (and losing up to 30 Flicker Shads a day) to bag up 32-10 today, beating Denning and Malloy despite their final day sack of 36-12 by 3-10. There's too few adjectives to accurately describe this.

In third are Diegel and Steffen, fourth finishers are Deutz and Deutz, and Olivier and Galant rounded out the top 5. It took 59-10 to make the top ten.

These young guns have done quite a bit to encourage new, younger co-anglers, teams, and pros to enter the sport. That's desperately needed, and they are speaking from a pretty impressive 'pulpit'.
