Subject: Bill Sutton Wins Lake City NWT

Location: Rhinelander
The 126 boat field left the marina in Lake City today under cloudy skies and a light mist. The forecast is for the front to move through by afternoon with clearing skies followed by north winds in the 10 mph range. No one seemed to worried about the bite today, the general consensus is that the weather will push the fish deeper but won't effect the catching much.

Three ways, pitching jigs, vertical jigging, pitching cranks (that's what Korey Sprengel is doing) and trolling lead core are all in play. Mike Gofron is pitching jigs in 35' of water, backed off the current seam the fish are in and working the jig past them.

The leader board could do a complete flip today, as finding one pod of big girls or thrashing a few out over a dozen spots is the key and there doesn't seem to be anyone 100% confident that can do that two days in a row here.

Weigh in starts at 3 PM with the final flight due in at 5.

WalleyeFIRST coverage of the NWT is brought to you by Lund Boats and Mercury Outboards!

Mercury Pro Bill Sutton took the title at the Lake City National Walleye Tour tournament with a total weight of 46.58 for cash and prizes worth over $70,000.00. Sutton bested second place finisher Jeremy Wildeman by a quarter of a pound in a dramatic finish on stage at Lake City Marina. Terry Hora took the co-angler title.

In third was Jermey Evans, fourth Jarrad Fluekiger, and rounding out the top five was John Gillman.

The weather held all day with overcast and some wind, and the walleyes responded well to pretty much every presentation in the book. Buffalo Slough produced a number of the big fish in wood, current seams, and other structural elements. Willow cats, big chubs, crawlers, Berkley GULP!, and crankbaits were all mentioned, as were depths of 3' to 35'.

The largest crowd WalleyeFIRST has seen in years attended the weigh in, as much due to the attendance by a rowdy, happy crowd of young anglers-to-be attending for the NPAA Kids and family Fishing seminar directly after the weigh in as the dedicated walleye fishing fans in the Lake City area.
