Subject: Bill Sutton Leads Lake City NWT

Location: Rhinelander
The NWT Mississippi River tournament is underway out of the Lake City MN Marina under good weather conditions for the morning. The forecast has storms and wind for this afternoon, so most of the pros are pushing hard to box 5 fish early before boat control and dirty water become a serious issue. Winds at 9:30 are gusting to near 20 at time already, and skies are cloudy.

Every technique available is in play and the fish are, according to interviews this morning, on the move, and the bigger females are schooled in small, select areas. Spot on the spot for 20# is forecast to be what's needed for a top five on day one.

The live weigh in from the NWT begins at 3 PM.

Subject: Re: Lake City NWT Day One

Location: Rhinelander

The bite was definitely good today, but the trick for a top ten on day one was finding the post spawn tankers. There were quite a few comments from the top ten about the sheer numbers of smaller fish, and the need to leave them and go find big fish.

Some of the fish came from deep water, and some from very shallow water, so the transition after the spawn is in full force. Predictions are a 30 pound bag will hit the stage tomorrow, even though a cold front is moving through right now.

Bill Sutton weighed 28.21 to take the lead. Hot on his transom is Jeremy Wildeman with 27.36. In third is Brian Bjorkman with 23,81, fourth is Mike Gofron with 23,67, and rounding out the top five is Korey Sprengel with 23.57. Korey and several other boats weighed in early, long before the scales are traditionally open.

The weather tomorrow looks like 50's with NW winds at 10, warming to mid 60's by weigh in time. the day should start out cloudy and clear as the back side of the cool front moves through.

The field leaves the Harbor in lake City tomorrow morning at 7 and weighs in at 3PM to 5PM.
