Subject: Woodke Wins NWT Sturgeon Bay NWT

Location: Rhinelander

Day two dawned clear, warmer and nearly calm, which one would expect would cause concern for the bite.

Not the case. Many of the anglers are actually fishing very shallow. Yes, they are 'sight fishing'! Korey Sprengel said in his morning interview he's actually looking forward to the calmer waters, as he did better yesterday on flat water than when the wind picked up. Lipless cranks like the Berkley War Pig and swimbaits seem to be popular. A good portion of the presentation is irritating the fish enough to get a reaction strike, as the water is full of alewives.

The trollers seemed happy with the weather too.

Weigh in will start at 3 PM, but several boats should weigh in early. We'll be there today if they do!

Pro Dan Woodke weighed the largest bag of the day to overtake Tom Keenan and Jason Przekurat for the title and $87047.00 in cash and prizes. Dan was in third after day one and came from behind to take the win. He was teamed up with Jason Przekurat, Kevin McQuoid, and Mark Courts, and found the fish two weeks earlier in shallow boulder structure.

The fish were hitting lipless cranks, swim baits, and jigging lures. The walleyes were shallow enough in the crystal clear water to sight fish successfully, a crazy new technique taking the Bay by storm. Dan used his arsenal of St. Croix Rods jigging sticks to put the big walleyes in the net.

Second place went to Tom Keenan and third to Jason Przekurat. Karl Wenckebach took fourth, and St Croix Rods /Evinrude pro Chris Gilman rounded out the top five.
