Member Posts: 591 Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | wow going over the points standings , and how things fell into place this year for some and others fell the other way,, looks like you have your top twenty five... Congradulations... looking at the names on the list , i have come to the conclusion that this MWS series is full of some good sticks! not so much of a surprise but with the locations and time of year, tuff bites on the bago system and every one fishing the river on the first event on the bay,, then this past weekend also forcing teams to make decisions and let the chips fall... wow congrats to the top twentyfive. looks like a well rounded year and for those guys to place high in all 4 events not much room for a bad day on this cercuit... now a wisconsin river lake petonwell ,,, this years MWS champion and the top ten for that matter it looks like can hang with anyone anywhere,,, good luck to all .. Hey jim ,, another great job!!!!!!! will there be an alternate invited? im thinking shep might be calling from Moleen just a heads up.

If you qualify and cannot make it, you still get you check and shirts. They do not go down the line and give your stuff away to someone else who did not make the top 25. I really like that.

I'm wondering how many boats are allowed to enter this series? I was at the weigh in on sunday and I was amazed at the fish that were brought in. It really got the juices flowing and listening to some of the anglers talking it definitley seems like a series I would enjoy. 99% of the fisherman were talking to each other after the fish were weighed. It seems like everybody gets along and a really well run and respectable series. I hope to meet most of the competitors foe next season. I am also wondering if the majority of the field was fishing structure or open water. looking to fish this weekend and any help or open seats for a day would be awesome!!!!!! Thanks a lot guys, Matt Hietpas

Member Posts: 40 Location: Monona, WI | Congratulations Tom & Mike Harrison! You put a lot of time into this tournament and it really paid off. Hard work and sticking to your game plan yielded a nice reward! And to think you almost went home Saturday night! Good thing you pampered those fish on the way in and kept them alive! I had a blast fishing with you guys the last few years and it was fun to see you finally break through. Now, when does the bite start in LBDN? Tim Drascic

Member Posts: 40 Location: Monona, WI | eyefish: I'm not sure how many teams the MWS caps out at, but I'm pretty sure they never maxed out this year. I believe there were 78 boats on Sunday. This was our first year and we thoroughly enjoyed it (although we could have used a couple more fish - but who couldn't say that! ![]() We fished off the Geano's reef area in 22-26 feet pulling spinners with larger blades (#6 and #7). Those larger holographic 'hachet' blades from BPS also put a few fish in the boat last week. As far as colors go, start with a variety out there and see if a preference is displayed. The best color blades for us last week were perch colors (green/gold/orange), gold, silver and white. Match perch colored beads (green/chart or yellow/orange) with the perch and gold blades. Other bead colors we had the best luck with were purple/white, purple/chartreuse, blue/white and black/gold. I honestly don't know if the bead color makes that much difference, but you have to justify buying all those pretty things somehow... ![]() Run your spinners off of planer boards with snap weights. Like blades/beads, vary the lead and weight until you zero in on the fish. We were running 1/2 to 1 1/2 oz snap weights, usually on a 30/30 setup. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. Let the fish tell you where they are. You can also run one or two rods straight out the back with just a bottom bouncer. Caught a few that way too. Speed for us was around 1.0 mph. We couldn't get bit going much faster than that. Good luck.

Nice run tourney, however unless your a local with 5th place only paying 500 it's hardly worth the entry fee, gas, hotel, travel, etc.

Member Posts: 591 Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | CT your point has been braught up many times before ,, we all long for the good old days when a 100 dollar bill in your pocket would get you a full tank of gas in your truck and boat and a sanwich and soda and bait for the day, unfortunatly in the last 20 years we havent built an oil refinery in this country and we are stuck with 3.00 plus ?gallon in stead of 67 cents , heck i think our states gas tax is almost more than we pd for fuel in the early 90,s ya it hurts the smaller tournaments , and dont think it hurts the flw and pwt also,, i know for a fact the mwc is feeling it. HARD. there was a day when the payout seemed to go farther believe it or not... its a shame , i understand the frustration... i for one have decided to stay closer to home, and not pre-fish much,,, most of the freinds you make in the smaller events understand and are in the same boat... fish for points dont expect to come out ahead , hard to justify but if you expect to make money in any cercuit you fish based on payout it is an uphill battle, big cercuit , bigger payout, but figure out that your expenses , you can fish the pwt or flw but your expenses turn from 600-700 a tournament to 5,000 times 6 events, thats 30 grand , and im talking conservitive for a season fishing the big time..... even in the big boy events does a top 5 finnish in every event of the year pay your bills? when are people going to wake up and realize that you can be a great fisherman maybe the best top 5 for the year and come in at years end with a loss... we are all wrestling with this... like i said before it was a loss ten years ago but not even close to what it is today, pay to play i guess, erks me to no end. its like buying 100 bucks worth of raffle tickets when the top prize is 80 . and you have to put 100 bucks worth of gas in the truck to drive around and buy all the tickets in diferent locations.. then when you get there you have a beer and sandwich , oh well... best of luck

Member Posts: 344 Location: Manitowoc WI | there are a few select players in the game that make real good money, doing it as a hobby.. And i will tell you not many of them fish touraments all of the state or country.. Check the top 10's from most the major touraments on a bago and you will see the names im talking about.. the same tom. dick and harry.. every time.. consistantly cashing a check.. living minutes from the launch that they fish out of every day.. The thing is.. These people careless about the money.. they love to fish.. they love to compete.. They would do it for free. I have one name in mind.. He is maybe the all time top winner on bago (sum of all touraments including minors).. fill in the blank.. wont mention anyone..

thankfully the responses were understanding that I am not bashing the MWS, Jim does a good job, just trying to incite some conversation that may bring about some good ideas to help defer costs and thus raise payouts. The hosting community may need to give us free gas cards.

Member Posts: 591 Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | yes the boys care about the money,,, but if the money was cut down and first place was five hundread in stead of 5,000 they would still fish,,, if the entry was 50 bux. in most cases , close to home anyway. a little wager and good competion and freinds , some good storys about the one that got away and who had good fortune and others that talked smart the day before and now they are sitting in what you smelt when they were talkin the day before.... Priceless... its all about the high expections and the results , a good sammich and a beer before and after.. and the top secret plan that comes togather once in a wile... its like a round of golf... there are only a few shots in a round that keep you comming back . the rest is just good times and good buddys.
