Inquisitive mind: I see that there are/were some very big names from the walleye world participating in the FLW league championship. I’m curious how those who qualified felt about this. Curious if there was a bit of anxiety or apprehension when you saw who you were fishing against? Or did you feel like, “bring ‘em on”, to be considered one of the best, I must fish against the best. The league has been touted as a tournament series for the weekend angler. Some hope to develop their skills to see if they have what it takes to make the big tournaments. Were you surprised to see some people who have been doing the national tournaments for years? Is it fair to say that this is an indication of changing times? Do you think that some of these people did the league in case they did not make the Tour championship while fishing that series? As it gets tougher and tougher to get into the FLW Tour tournament series, I imagine that we will all see more well-known names doing the league. What do you think? I remember reading some threads on WF where people complained about league participants making it to the tour championship. This appears to be a reversal of that situation. How does it sit with you? Some names that participated that have had success doing national tournaments: Eric Olson Dan Stier RICHARD LACOURSE JONATHAN SHOEMAKER PAUL FALLAW THOMAS CHACK CHUCK DUBE James Adsem BOB BILSKY PS......... the neat thing about WF is that all you have to do is click on the names of those in the tournament and you can see their past performances.

Member Posts: 794 Location: Elgin, Illinois | Gee, You may have missed a couple of names... Don Marx finished 9th at Red Wing this year on the Tour... and Lamar Van Dame is the Pro-Staf Coordinator for G3 Boats.... The names you listed are all very good fishermen... ANd, there are a lot of League guys who are very good fishermen who didn't have a couple of good days but could have... I for one consider it a positive testament to the quality of the FLW League Series that you see this level of participation. The competition is "among" the anglers... But, you are fishing "against" the fish... If you outsmart the fish you do well "among" your fellow anglers and yourself. You don't outsmart the fish and all you can do is hope that your matching, shirt, boat and truck "look good"... I want to point out a "something important"... The fellow I mentioned above, Don Marx, has no big name sponsors... he fishes out of nice 17' Alumacraft tiller boat with a 70hp. He is sitting in third place on the morning of day 3 because he can and does outsmart the fish. He's not a "big name" (yet, but he probably will be), but if I were fishing any tournament he is in... I'd be hoping to do as well or better than him if I wanted to stand up their and get a check. There are no "by weekends" in life, and after T-ball, we do "keep score" in competitions... Fishing tournaments is all about "competition"... And, a better field of competitors should not be a bad thing, it should be an incentive to get out there and compete... be the best you can be...
