My Lab Abby started having her pups at around 3:50pm this afternoon. She's had 6 so far with two being yellow and 4 black. She has 2 more waiting in the lobby. I'll get a picture of the whole family when there all safely out. Heres the picture of the 6 together and one that has that certain charm. Seing these little guys being born is really something. Takes the rough edge off the Ol' Captain a little.

Wulp, we just had a little surprise. Getting ready to take a picture of Ma and all 8 of the kids and number 9 then 10 showed up. Hope thats it, as Abby only has 10 teets.

What the heck is the record for lab puppies? We just cleaned everybody up, put them into a nice nursing box and all of a sudden Abby had another yellow male. 9 males 2 females. Not bad for expecting 8. So much for sonogram technology. Won't be much sleep for the next 8 weeks in this house. I didn't think my 9 year old male had it in him. That studly pup.

Wulp, hit the sac at around 12:30. Just got up and guess what? Yup, she had another one last night sometime. 12 pups, 9 males 3 females. So with that many, is that now called a gaggle instead of a litter? And Steve, did you get my E-mail?

Dan,

The male dog doesn't have anything to do with the number of puppies produced. The female only sheds a certain number of eggs. It doesn't matter if your stud dog was Thomas Jefferson, if the female only produces 3 eggs the most potent stud dog in the world old get 3 puppies of which he is the father, no matter how many times she is bred. 1 egg equals 1 puppy.

Well Dan, it's not a litter or a gaggle. That's a HERD!!!!!! You're going to be busy for the next few weeks. That's a big family. Pretty neat.

Dan
when our dog had 10 pups we had to help her out with feeding them and after they were about 2 weeks old we just spit them up at feeding time good luck its going to be a lot of four hour feedings

hehehe I can just hear the non stop whimpering of the new pups! Moma is going to be busy cleaning up after all those behinds! Make sure she has plenty of water, and the best food. While she won't want to be away from them, make sure she does have a few moments away, if nothing to just lay down and rest. She is going to be one tired pooch.

Ya I kinda knew that. Just wanted something for the boy to brag about at the Bar. ;-O

And the vet told us to keep an eye on the pups weight, and if they grow at a decent pace we won't need to bottle feed them any suppliment. And so far the feed bag is doing fine.

Get those pups to the vet or do it yourself, but the dewclaws need to be removed now.

They're doing great. And only 4 have been spoken for, waiting on a phone call for 2 others. But thinking we were only going to have 8 and not 12, I kept the event low key to a certain extent. Going to post something at the vets for anybody wanting to reserve or get on a call list when their ready. The vet was kinda surprised all 12 lived when we talked today. I went and picked up some supplement today, but only one Yellow one seemed interested in it. He's the one who I think is going to be the biggest as he never stops nursing and is becoming visibly bigger then the others already. They'll have their first shots, be wormed and come with AKC puppy applications. Otter as you know, is quit the hunter. Pretty good on Ducks and Geese. But better on pheasants. His Ma was the only lab I ever seen that pointed. She didn't raise one leg and straighten her tail, but simply stopped in her tracks if the bird didn't flush. Otter didn't inherit that trait. Hell, he's caught probably 6 birds on the ground that wouldn't move fast enough.
