| OK, so I may get a new rifle for the boy in 7MM-08. Tell me about this cartridge. Good and bad. Short action, it seems to have similar specs as a .270. |

I know people with that gun and they seem to like it. The benefit is that you still have the knockdown power while getting a little more of a flat shooting load. This is one that I will seriously look at when I make my purchase in a few years. |

| Shep, I have an encore in this round and have taken a number or deer with it. I use a Federal ballistic tip and it has never let me down from 30 yards to 300.

| If I was to choose between the two, I would go with the 7mm-08. It has great knock down power. My wife shoots this caliber in a Browning A-bolt microstalker and there is never any tracking required. There is minimal recoil for this size caliber and I nice short action resulting in a light weight gun. |

| Thanks for the good info. That is the caliber I was thinking about for my son also. |

Send me an e-mail later if you want more extensive info. I have lots. The 7mm-08 is one of the best (almost "the" best" all around rifle cartridges out there. |
