| I bought a new radio the other day and am going to install it on my boat. How do I properly tune the antenna to the radio? I have a 8ft. Antenna already but the old radio would not transmitt out anymore(recieved fine). So I want to make sure I have this one installed correct. What do you all suggest. |

| Get a hold of your local amatuer radio club. These guys will be a big help, and have the equipment and knowledge to set you up. SWR meters, and the math needed to determine optimum length of the cable.
It is possible after years of excessive reflective wave, the transmit power electronics failed. Whatever you do, make sure you get a meter on it to check the SWR. |

Location: Appleton wi | Taildancer i have installed many radio's and cb. You do not need to worry about tuning your antenna to your radio. Poor connection are the number culprit for any poor reception/transmission issue. Electronics are electronics anything can fail at any time .The electronics or in this case marine radio attenuation circuitry is built so there is consisitency in signal due to interference,weather.etc. Dont waste your money taking to some shop.

| True, you can just connect up the antenna and go. And yes, make sure you have a good, clean connection on the connector.
My experience is that the guys from the amateur radio clubs will do this for a 6 pack or two. And there is a difference between a tuned antenna, and one that is not. Both in performance, and longevity. But that's just me.
