I am new to the site and have already got some great help from here on Splash Guards and figured I'd ask another question I have had since buying my new boat last year.

2006 Alumacraft Navigator 185 Sport with 2007 Evinrude E-tec 150 Saltwater version with 25 inch shaft. I have had the motor raised to the 2nd hole from the bottom to raise as much as possible and still have some adjustment. I have toyed with the idea of a Jack Plate for a while and have decided it will be my 2nd purchase while on deployment, first being Splash Guards. Currently with a full tank of gas (40 gallons) and loaded for fishing, I have a GPS reading of 46-49 MPH depending on conditions with a 19 pitch aluminum prop at 5700-5800 RPM's.

I am thinking of a 5.5-6 inch setback manual plate, and raising the motor to 3.5 below pad. It is currently 4.75 below pad and i know this is a little low.

Please give me some guidence on what to look for and what kind of gains I should expect. I understand i will need to move up in pitch which is also in the works with a SS prop for the boat. There has to be someone on here that has a similar boat and setup that I have and help is GREATLY appreciated.

Chad, Give Frank Gailloreto a call from Summerset Marine. He is the man when it comes to what can be done with those kind of ideas and should have alot of useful information concerning your Alumacraft boat.

I would check with Alumacraft on transom warrenty with a jackplate, your speed is about right, I would try a 19 Tempest for a prop
