Anyone running one of these? I've been running an 1890 w/ 200 Opti the past year and love it but there's many days I miss the ole' tiller. Just curious about the performance and handling of the 190 in the tiller package.

I believe the first one is in production or is now in post production. I'm sure we'll hear more soon.

Ah....I wasn't sure if any were out yet or not. So what about the 1890 tiller for performance? I'm sure the 190 tiller would be close if not a bit better because of the hull and lighter weight.

One other question....how come the 1890 tiller is only rated for 90hp? Boy...you'd think a 150 would be the ticket hanging on back.

I was informed the first X-190T is done. It's being sent to Nebraska.

Tuffy does not set the horsepower rating on any of there boats nor does any other boat company. The US Coast Guard sets all horsepower ratings on all boats. If you look around, all fiberglass and aluminum boats of equal size are rated for the same hp. A Ranger 618T, a Lund Pro-V 1800, a Tuffy 1890, etc are all rated for a 90hp motor. Not much you can do until the power steering is available on the smaller outboards.

But once you jump up to a 620T or a Tuffy 2060, Lund 2010 Pro Guide you are able to put the bigger outboards on with the Mertens power steering.

Anyone rating an under 20 foot tiller boat for more than 90 hp is blowing off the coast guard standards. Anyone involved in an accident in such a boat would be subject to litigation personally, as would the boat company, and both would surely lose.

Hydraulic steering handles and similar systems do not make an under 20 foot boat any less subject to the tiller coast guard ratings.

How many people have hit buoys on the river or other places due to their view-obstructed seating position in a tiller boat? I personally know a half-dozen. This (max speed due to obstructed view) is the main reason for the conservative ratings.

The 1890 T performs well with a 90, and the 190 will perform exceptionally well, due to the large difference in weight and hull design.

Has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with power steering, or lack thereof. Zach hit it on the head.

the only boat i ever saw hit a buoy was at dubuque during the mwc finals.it was occupied by walleye pros g.p. and k.k. i don't know who had ahold of the STEERING WHEEL when they hit the buoy but it tore the boat up pretty good.luckily they weren't hurt.
i would think that if the cause of hitting something came from the fact that it was a tiller boat they wouldn't allow them period.i can tell you that i personally can turn a tiller faster than a wheel if i needed to avoid hitting anything.in theory a power steering assisted high horse power tiller should be just as safe to operate as a wheel boat.unobstructed view, quicker reaction time in turning and throttle control plus the added floor space in the boat. i wouldn't be surprised if there were some changes to the tiller ratings on power steering assisted boats.the ancient rating system is out of date and needs to be reconsidered.

In the majority of tiller boats the driver is positioned in the lowest portion of the boat, accentuating the amount of time there is no view of the water when planing the boat. In a tiller there is also opportunity for occupants to be seated in front of the driver, obstructing a portion his view. A portion of the drivers field of vision will be obstructed no matter where you place them. Pretty hard to sit behind the driver in a tiller boat. I'm just pointing out the reasoning behind the ratings, not that I am a proponent of them.
