Dear PWT Contestants,

The 19th PWT season is underway with many changes, including a first-ever artificials-only CAN-AM. The Mercury Championship will kick-off the season, and the PWT Championship Shootout will conclude the year.

1. The four Pro-Am 2008 tournaments, presented by Minn Kota, will continue as outlined on the news release and on our web site. The payouts will be all cash, with $44,000 to winners. Payouts are listed on the web site, along with significant incentives from manufacturers, which boost the payout percentage considerably. Pros, if your sponsors offer contingencies not posted on the PWT web, let us know, and we may be able to list them.

2. The Angler of the Year will be determined from the four Pro-Am tournaments, with the winner receiving a guaranteed cash prize of $25,000.

3. Following the Hudson, Wisconsin Optima/Lowrance Pro-Am on the St. Croix River, a PWT Championship Shootout will follow for the top 50 in the Angler of the Year race. The new Champion will win a guaranteed $50,000. Cash prizes for anglers from second place and down will come from a $100 Championship surcharge at the four Pro-Am events. All surcharge money will go to Championship contenders. Note: Pro anglers must be entered into all four PWT Pro-Am tournaments prior to Mobridge to qualify for the Angler of the Year race.

4. Pro contestants who apply for all four Pro-Ams will be reviewed and successful contestants will be entered. Those applying for one, two or three tournaments may apply until fields are full. Download pro entry forms at professionalwalleyetrail.com.

5. The Dryden tournament will be a Can-Am artificials-only event. Captains are John Butts for the Canadian team and Gary Parsons for the US team. They will select their 25-person teams. The entry fee will be $1,500. Cash payback to the pros will be a minimum of 150 percent, with payouts to top finishers and winning team members. Sponsorships are being solicited for this first-ever style event, and could mean additional pro payback.

6. The Mercury Championship set for Bay City, Michigan, May 16-18, will proceed as planned. The PWT is working with the Dow Chemical Company, Mark Gwizdala and the Bay City Convention and Visitors Bureau for the Championship and Sport Show. The Championship details, boat test-rides, lodging arrangements, schedule, etc., will be sent in March.

7. More PWT television shows will feature successful pro anglers. These will be similar to the popular story about 2007 Angler of the Year Gary Parsons. The TV series will continue to educate from the pro’s viewpoint. Some of these pieces will take place following each tournament and on some of North America’s best fisheries (apart from the tournament scene). These shows provide the ability to teach fishing tactics, showcase PWT pros and include big fish. “Tactics shows” will be shot on location after each tournament.

8. Revised 2008 rules are also on the web.

9. Thanks for pushing the availability of amateur/co-angler opportunities during your travels this Sport Show season. The attached amateur/co-angler entry blank will make it easy for you to print a handful of forms to carry with you.

Thanks for your patience and understanding with the delayed announcement. If you haven’t done so already, please submit your entry form as soon as possible. We look forward to seeing you on the Trail this year.

Sincerely,

Julie Meister, Chip Leer, Jim Kalkofen

PS: The 2007 PWT season DVD has been mailed.
