Location: El Paso, Illinois 61738 | The Regional Council of Carpenters held their annual Walleye/Sauger Tournament on the Illinois River Saturday March 15, 2008 in Spring Valley Illinois. The 45 teams arrived at the river with higher than normal water, with water clarity 10 to 12 inches and surface temps about 42-44 degrees.
The first place team of Dave Janssen and Henry Marbold from Springfield, IL found the winning weight of 8.64 lbs up by Starved Rock Lock and Dam. Henry and Dave were fishing a 12' break using jigs and minnows. The second place team of Mike and Pat Carr from Crystal Lake, IL also had the big fish of the tournament scaling 3.25 lbs. Their total basket weight was 6.48 lbs. Third place honors went to the team of Jeff Lund and Christopher Nowak from Lombard, IL with 5.99 lbs. Even with the tough bite conditions the teams managed to bring in 43 fish scaling 61.4 lbs. with four of the fish being walleyes. The Lasalle fish hatchery personnel were available to collect the fish for spawning and milking.
