I'm in the market for a new walleye boat and for my budget it looks like aluminum is going to be the way to go. However, I am intrigued by the Stratos line of glass walleye boats. Does anyone have any opinions on these boats, either owners or those who have fished out of them?

I'm interested in any and all information that I can gather before making my decision. Thanks for the feedback.

Wolfe,

I sat in the 375 and it was way too small for me. The cockpit area is very crammed compared to other glass boats, my leg actually touched the throttle while sitting down. Storage was okay, but again, other glass boats in that range have more such as Rangers and Tritons. They are deep boats though so that was a benefit. I guess when I looked at the entire package and pricing it pushed me towards a different glass boat. Heard the ride wasn't exceptional in these either, but can't say first hand if that is true or not.

Good luck in your quest.

Mr. Darboy, you just sat in the wrong boat. I just got my 385XF, plenty of room. You'd be surprised how much more room there is going from a 17' 6" boat to an 18' 6" boat. And with the 99" beam, it's one of the widest boats you'll find in it's class.

I think the 386XF has even more room, the windshield is moved forward slightly more than the 385XF. I went with the 385 with the full windshield, no jump seats in the back allows for a bigger live well.

Ultimately, the decision is yours. I would advise you to sit in one before you make up your mind, I'm sure glad I did.

I sat in a 385xf dual console yesterday, and bought it. Plenty of room. Huge storage areas. it has a yamaha 4stroke 115. It should suit my purposes fine, but I am hoping that i don't regret not going with the 150. I am having an automatic anchor, trolling motor, and a few fishfinders installed. Should be ready to go. Anyone interested in a Crestliner 1600 fishhawk tiller with a Honda 40? Nice fishing boat, but just a tad small for my family of 4 to fish from.

Where'd you buy from? Heckels? I think you are gonna wish that you put a 150 on it, but that's just my opinion. Glad you like it, nothing like a new boat. I can't wait to get my Triton, been playing with color schemes for 3 weeks now!!

I am in the Finger lakes of upstate NY, so Heckels is fair ride away. Bought a 2006 leftover from TowneMarine in Bloomington Pa. See it at www.townemarine.com The yamaha website tested a 375 with the 115, and it did a hair over 40mph. This boat is a foot longer and 100# heavier. I am hoping for upper thirties. It was an extra $4k to bump up to the 150. Reports elsewhere on the web claim this boat with a 150 does 48-50 mph. That is consistent with Yamaha performance reports listed on the web. Hard to believe the 115 drops that much. I will be fishing 95% of the time, but hope to be pulled/pull the kids once in a while. i can drop a ski if necessary, or switch to wakeboarding if necessary. Again, I hope i don't regret the 115.

I test drove a 385 last year in Oskosh and was ver impressed with the ride. I took it out in about 2 foot waves on Winnebago and it handled very well. Was thinking about buying but found a used fisher instead. I would set up a test ride and see what you think.
