I guess we'll just agree to disagree then. Carnivals are public events to, but I see no reason or means to see how much the organizers make. I can speculate all I want by figuring out how many people may show up and how many rides they go on. But in the long run, it's none of my business.

Closer to home, with a more valid analogy, race car drivers make some good change if they win or place high. I wonder if they try or question how much money the organizers take in?

I do tournaments, and I decide whether it is in my best interest to participate in individual tournaments or a series. There are variables that I take into consideration with the big part of the equation being the percent of payback given to anglers.

I could care less if the organizer is making zero, $1, $100 or $100,000 as long as I feel that I am being fairly treated. If I'm not getting enough and he/she is getting too much than I complain or I move on. Is this what you are hinting at? If not move on.

As others have indicated, it's not rocket science to figure out the gross take from an event. (even though you seem to have difficulty). Most people can do the math and figure out the % payback from entry money. If you are happy you enter, if not you may decide to bash organizers on web sites using an anonymous handle.

For the record, I really do not believe that tournament directors have to disclose their profits to anyone. They have to declare the possible prizes, that's how their fees are determined now. But I do not believe that they have to provise income or profits to anyone but the IRS.

It's one thing if you work for a public entity like being a teacher. In that case, yes, you can find out their salaries. It's another if you pay for a permit and have an organized event on public land. In that case, you are just being a snoop.
