just updating after a week in between and computer issues;
Water temps. reaching those low to mid 60' seeing a more positive increase in weed growth and fish/fishing activity..
Again reports as well us catching lot's of undersize walleye, first of all telling us that some good year classes are indeed out there. Good eating size fish between that 15 and 19 inch range as well.
Best baits; jigging using small pieces of crawler, medium size leeches and also the "Gulp-Alive" selection of baits working OK. The Gulp definitely stays on the hook better increasing more bites when missed fish as to just dropping the bait back and usually they are there.
Drifting and using live-bait rigs; plain hooks and floaters as well bouncers/harnesses with more windy conditions. Covering water and try your planer boards to spreading lines, don't overlook those suspended fish so setting some of your harnesses down 12 to 15 feet in deeper waters can catch fish as well.

Locational areas; again mixed reports with anglers fishing the upper Bay as well south of Gladstone. Waters south of Escanaba as well off Breezy Point and beyond too the Ford River.
Dirty waters are the key when fishing those southern waters.

Northern Pike action is picking up while Walleye fishing making for some mixed bags of fish and fun!
Baits to try; the 4 inch "Gulp-Alive" in Black Shad has been good with a jighead, been using a light, short 5 inch 7-Strand 18 pound non-coated leader with small swivel keeping from bite offs and still not affecting the action as catching Walleye on it as well.
"In my book Northern Pike is an over looked fish and tasty in the pan as well!"

Pike again being found in the weedbeds throughout the Bay and will only get more active as the summer progresses.

Smallmouth Bass reports and we caught several while working the sandy breaks and weed edges south of the McDonalds the other day although hearing some good reports of catches of fish in the upper Bay including the Whitefish River and also fishing the Escanaba River west upwards to the dam areas also the Ford River mouth and Cedar River.
Baits and again tubes, small cranks like the Berkley Frenzies "FSH-5" baitfish!
This is a hot little bait, casts well and having good action.

Also talking with a shore fisherman who was wading in the reedbeds south of the Escanaba Harbor catching some nice bass with both tubes and spinnerbaits. So don't overlook the available shore fishing we've got either!

Enjoy the week and let's hear how your fishing is going?

Marty
