Member Posts: 2567 Location: Manitowoc, WI | I think you'll find a 50/50 split on this one. I'm a Brett Favre fan and a Packer fan. I wish he would have taken the wthe time to think this through. I wish the people in his life would have made him take longer.....as long as it took, until he knew, with 100% confidence, what he wanted of his future. I had a friendly wager with a guy at work that by training camp he would make it known that he wanted to come back......I collected today. This will not play out well for the Packers or Brett Favre. The Ted Thompson haters of the world will tear him up for not allowing him to come back. My opinion: while they owe him for his years of positive service to the organization, they cannot allow him to hold the org. hostage to his wims. Back in late March, right before the NFL owner's meetings, he made it known to TT and coach McCarthy that he wanted to play. They said great and arranged a jet to go down to Mississippi and see him the next day. Later that same day, he told them to forget it, that he wanted to stay retired. Just by that they should hav e known this would come up again. This is ugly and it will get uglier before it's over. Very disappointing...:(

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | I think Brett wanted out of packerville since the first time they did not sign moss. when they did not get him the second time, I believe he allready knew he would not play yet another year. Well, for the packers anyhow. I think all the tears about retirement was smoke and mirrors. he knew what he was going to do and it did hurt him. He did not screw the fans of packerville, he made the years special. He just wants a better shot at the ring and I think he will not be satisfied until he gets the chance to at least experience another team. I think this is not a whim, it was planned. If he stayed he played, he wanted something new and the only way to get it was to get a release. Not trade.

Jim Ordway - 7/11/2008 10:04 PM Green Bay is doing the right thing. Brett is not the future and has been questionable for years. Time for everyone to move on. Take care, Jim o Right on . They should have got Rogers under center when all the newbies came to the team. Now we have to start our rebuilding and take our knocks. Brett is a fierce competitor , but also the luckiest QB to play the game. When he threaded the needle and made the play he was called a hero. We all know all to well it didn't always go that way. I for one lost the little bit of respect I had left for him when he gave his farewell speech to the media. Here was a guy who had a long record breaking career, made more $$$ than most that will read this post combined, was going out on his terms. CRYING like a boy who had just lost his puppy. Jeez for the rest of us the economy has gone to $hit , job cuts, uncertainty, and here is this so called hero whining about his decision to leave THE GAME. Give me a break. Sure he can still play, And will thread the needle again and be the "hero". But then we'll get to hear him blubber again when HE decides to leave. This is all about him . NOT THE GAME , NOT THE FANS, Only poor little Brett. Maybe this so called "hero" should start giving back to the game and fans that treated him all to good.

Member Posts: 3899 | Rumor Has It - 7/11/2008 7:52 PM From a reliable source: Brett Favre is in negotiations with the Chicago Bears. Your reliable source is making it up. If the Bears, or any other team, had any contact with Favre or his agent, that would be considered tampering. And that would cost them big in fines and draft choices. No way are the Packers going to release him. I almost agree with Aleyes. Only it would be 12 million this year. But maybe they stay the course, and if he applies for reinstatement, they bring him into camp, and let him compete for the starting position. But he comes in at No. 2. And that means #12 gets most of the reps. I lost a bit of respect for #4 when he said, knowing that he was in the last couple years of his career, that he would not help tutor Rodgers. And now he does all this behind the scenes, cloak and dagger crap. Get in front of a mic, and state what you want, what you are thinking. I'm sick of hearing from your brother, mother, and agent. Stand up in front of us and make your case. I was surprised as anybody when he announced his retirement, especially with this team and the year he had. But I figured that he realized he couldn't play in the extreme weather anymore, that he just wasn't able to not let it affect his play like when he was younger. Also, he was questioning whether or not he wanted the ball with the game on the line. Well, I'm questioning that, too. In fact, I'm pretty sure I don't want the ball in his hands anymore, when the game is on the line. I am as big a Favre fan as there is, and loved watching him play. But it was time for him to leave the game gracefully, and with the pasion he played it with. I guess that can no longer be. He's now trying to hold the Packers at gunpoint and thought he had public opinion on his side. Well, I think he misjudged that TT would not come out and speak truthfully to the series of events leading up to this. I think public opinion has swung the other direction. I believe most people think he is a headcase for asking for his release. That will never happen, and if it did, TT might as well resign immediately after. Edited by Shep 7/14/2008 9:00 AM

i for one would love to see bret play, i would want a 2 or 3 year deal though. i would love to see him play into his 40,s he would have a good chance at another ring and put to rest the argument of who was the best qb of all time. if he would play a few more years i think he would hold every record known to man . but im also sick of the drama. my son has never seen another quarterback under center for green bay, he is 15 years old now. im not in a hurry to go back to the Randy write , david whitehurst , gimpy lynn dickey years, As far as Aaron rodgers being the the next ,steve young to follow Joe montana,, i thing the odds of that happening are a long shot. How many quarterbacks did the bears go threw in Favres carreer? BRet F didnt start showing his age until the packers traded away his all Pro guards and until last year we havent had a good offensive line for what ten years now? when are people gonna wake up!!!!!!!!!! without an offensive line i dont care who your QB is ,,,, he is going to have a tuff year! Bret favre should be playing for the packers until he gets beat out by a better player,, pulled from a game or in training camp he should play for green bay and retire from green bay. a 20 year run is somthing of an impossibuilty in this day and age.. and BRet and the packer could be more than competitive and do something historic like this ! but NO ! ted tompson wants to do his job and build a new team.. TUFF CRAp! go build a team for the Saints or the rams or minisota or something! i wanna see Bret (the best of all time) PLAY !!!!!!!! i dont wanna watch Rodgers twist a knee or break his pinky finger and sit for half the season! BRET needs to MAN up and TELL the FANS and the Packers organization that if he cant play for green bay he wont play at all, and commit to 3 more years ! Thomson needs to ask him to commit for three years and cut the bull****....... im geting sick and tired of both of these indeviduals,,, i tell you one thing... if ted doesnt get bret to play for the Pack he is Done in green bay as there are more BRet lovers than haters b

Member Posts: 538 | I am glad to finally hear from Brett. I am sad to see what a whiner he has turned out to be. The Pack was one game from going to the show last year and Brett did not have a championship game. He likely quit after that final disappointment. Now he is over it and blaming the Packers for his leaving. Boo hoo. He had his chances to continue to play and even come back after the retirement speech. The Pack stuck with him thru the thumb injury and the Vicodin episode. I would say they have been very loyal and understanding with him. Enough of this already. Sign him and trade him. Get it over with. Jim O

Member Posts: 163 Location: Oshkosh | It is too bad that Favre doesn't realize that if he just would have stuck it out, the talent level on the team is close enough that he might have seen another super bowl ring for himself... I do not fault him for crying during his retirement press conference, as anyone who puts that much into something for a couple decades is bound to choke up when the end comes. But after all of this, I would absolutely want to crawl in a hole if I pulled something like this. Although for 13 million... I've made an ass out of myself on many occasions without any sort of compensation... I would love to see the Pack not do a thing- make him squirm. We have the rights to him... if he wants to come back, the most I would allow him is to compete for his starting position, but start Rodgers in the first game to break his string of consecutive starts, THEN trade him. Makes me really happy that I got all verclempt at the end of the season and dropped a small mint on a Favre jersey...

Member Posts: 3899 | Well, after watching and listening to the softballs thrown to Brett, I am convinced that while he regrets retiring in March, and the Packers appear to have moved on, I am convinced that he has finaly jerked the team around for the last time. And it may just come down to putting him back on the active roster, letting him compete for a position, and trying to work out a trade. But what are any teams willing to trade for a guy who may or may not report to them? He talks about 100% commitment if he would decisde to play, but I don't see how he could possibly commit 100% deciding at the start of training camp. Missing all the OTA's and minicamps surely sets him behind, especially since that have tailord the offensive scheme to A-Rodg, now. What I don't get is why they have to adjust their schedule around him, to keep him form being bored, just because he has been there for 16 years. Heck, I've been working a lot longer than he has, don't make nearly the money in a year than he does for one game, and I still am required to report to work every day, and attend every meeting. I don't get a free get out of work pass because I am Shep, that's for sure! I think the Pack should have had a plan similar to what the Niner's did with Montana and Young that one year, before they traded Montana. Start Montana in the beginning of the halves, and bring in Young in the second and 4th quarters as a change of pace. They could have done the same thing with Favre and Rodgers. Maybe let Brett have the 2 minute drill, because he was so good at that. Keeps #4 fresh all year, and you get to see what Rodgers is really able to do. Again, it's too bad it has to come to this. No way they release him. I think he would sign with the Vikings out of spite, now. If he insists on coming back, I see him holding that clipboard, or maybe just sitting on the bench. Not sure they can even trade him, if they wanted too. It's going to cost the Pack $13 mil, but they may have to bite the bullet on that.
