Member Posts: 625 Location: LaCrosse, WI | I'm pretty sure the press release said they would continue publishing the magazine. I just hope they don't fill it with even more ads to replace the tourney section which took up 1/2 of the actual content.

Then it is ice fishing and there are no events then. When next season gets rolling, they will own no tournament venues. This gives Walleye In-Sider the opportunity to cover every walleye tournament out there. Who knows, the magazine could triple in size. I know that is a pipe dream, but at the MWC at Devils Lake, this topic came up. I have heard at this time, their goal is to cover as many walleye tournaments as they can. I am keeping my fingers crossed that even though the PWT didn't make it, that some part of the institute that taught most of us what we know can still hang around.

Member Posts: 625 Location: LaCrosse, WI | Johnnie, That's one thing that I think the Walleye world really lacks is a one stop print publication that covers the big events. Sites like WalleyeFirst are great, but the majority of Walleye anglers don't spend the time online checking for updates. A one stop magazine could get the word out about events and new techniques as well or better than any other venue. I think that Walleye In-Sider has enough subscribers that if they come out with a format like this, word will spread. I personally know about 100 guys who would subscribe to something like this, but they don't currently because everything that's out there right now is only focused on one series or circuit. If done well, it could really be a positive in the seemingly grim world of professional Walleye fishing.

Member Posts: 26 | i made a suggestion to in-fish a couple of years ago by email i thought it would have been a good idea at the time if they took all pwt tournament result articles to date and publish them as a pwt tourney log..... maybe they will do it now seeing they do have a cut-off date..... i think it would be a great reference for a lot of anglers....

Location: Rhinelander | I seriously doubt Insider will send folks into the field to 'cover' events. You will probably see articles about who's doing what, etc., but actual event coverage; I don't think so. They own Walleye Fan too, and those guys do almost everything by telephone and use other folks photography for the most part. It's expensive and takes a commitment of personnel to actually cover an event well, and I see much of the changes at In Fish as cost cutting measures. Dave Csanda used to be at every PWT, that ended years ago. That said, if the magazine wants to compete with the real time coverage out there, even by their own 'competition', it'll be good to see more media at the tournaments next year; there are sure not many 'outside' reporters/correspondents attending events right now.

Member Posts: 150 Location: mille lacs, mn. | "there are sure not many 'outside' reporters/correspondents attending events right now." Interestingly, up until a few years ago, the PWT INVITED press of various levels to their events--from aLL over the country. Local tourism groups furnished lodging etc. for that press group. Evidently, someone pulled the plug on that media coverage aspect of the events for reasons I don't know. I suspect the press exposure value return to the local tourism/PWT was viewed as a bad investment. From the outside...it made no sense to me to lose that media but what do I know. And just maybe, I have the wrong idea/memory of how the whole thing shook out in that regard a few years back.

Member Posts: 150 Location: mille lacs, mn. | I never said, nor do I promote "free rides". Anyone that knows my outspoken record in THAT regard will agree. I was referring to press coverage of the events. For local tourism and competitive fishing in general. I might be wrong, but a few rooms and meals, involving the right press people, is/was a good investment in my opinion. Now that said, as a Pro Angler who took many of the press out for the day while at PWT/MWC events over the years, I complained loudly that the Pro himself got nothing in return--in most cases. Not $$ nor sponsor exposure. I agree, from the Pro's position, as it was, it was a "freebie". And I have for years, on behalf of ALL Pro Anglers, pushed relentlessly for various forms of compensation from the local tourism people AND the PWT/FLW/MWC to cover our efforts when being asked to entertain press people and VIP's. So---there's "reality". With a signature.
