Location: Stevens Point, WI | Veteran angler Nick Johnson is no stranger to the winners circle. Johnson, a regular on the FLW Tour, made his first appearance with the PWT a memorable one by winning the last PWT qualifying event ever with 17.50 lbs. and a three day weight of 59.24 lbs. Johnson has two major FLW wins under his belt including a 2004 FLW Tour Championship, but this one is special; it's one that will go down in the history books.
Matthew Ernst was sitting in second going into day three. After reportedly letting go what might have been the winning fish he was in the lead on the final day until Nick Johnson weighed in. Ernst was only able to muster four fish to the scales; he hooked one 'deep in the gullet' early, was worried about the fish dying in the livewell and felt he had time to make it up, so he cut the line and tossed it back in hopes of getting another. Mr. Ernst finished with a day 3 weight of 57.04 lbs after releasing what he thought was a two pound fish. He might be second guessing that decision for some time to come.
Tommy Skarlis has been one of the hottest pros on tour as of late and he showed why today. Sitting in fifth place after day two, Skarlis brought his heaviest basket of the tournament to the scales with a five fish limit that weighed 20.18lbs. to pull down third place.
Day 1 leader Bruce Mirabella finished fourth claiming his first top five and cashing his first ever check in the final PWT event. Keith Kavajecz finished strong with a day 3 weight of 13.45 lbs. and a three day weight of 36.16 lbs. to claim fifth place.
