Member Posts: 118 | The Walleye Angler's Trail tournament scheduled for Genoa, WI on Sunday April 5, 2009 has been cancelled due to to the threat of a major winter storm event: "RAIN WILL CHANGE TO A MIX OF RAIN... SLEET... FREEZING RAIN AND SNOW... THEN TO ALL SNOW SATURDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SUNDAY AND COULD BE HEAVY AT TIMES. ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 INCHES OR MORE WILL BE POSSIBLE BEFORE THE SNOW ENDS. THE GREATEST THREAT FOR THE HEAVIEST SNOW APPEARS TO BE ALONG AND SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 90. SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW COULD OCCUR SUNDAY INTO SUNDAY NIGHT AS NORTH WINDS INCREASE ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE STORM." The tournament will be re-scheduled! Though I am in agreement that the tourney should have been cancelled it would have been nice to have some notification about it being cancelled. A few teams didn't find out untill 4:00 today! Thanks

Member Posts: 1188 Location: Chicago IL. | I got the call friday afternoon when I was comming off the water. At this time I did not look what really came down, but from the forcast I saw friday night and sat am, it was the right call. Went down to fish the FTS out of Spring Valley. Did the director have contact numbers from you to call?

Member Posts: 96 Location: Trempealeau, WI | John, We had our contact info on the sheet and did not receive any call about it being cancelled. There were some other teams at the landing that didn't get the message either. Yes cancelling the tourney was probably the right call with the forecast, even though never say a flake all weeked up here. Thanks, Bear

Member Posts: 68 | It's too bad- I've heard of a few LaCrosse area teams who never heard boo until the night before. That's alot of wasted gas and not to mention frozen fingers for nothing. I imagine most of them were on the water prefishing and not sitting at their computers. A cell call from the director sure would have been common courtesy. I didn't plan to fish anyway because of the new format, but I'm certainly sure glad I didn't sign up. I wonder when and where the re-scheduled event will take place? Maybe in a southern pool? ![]() Big D Edited by Osprey 4/9/2009 1:06 PM

Member Posts: 1188 Location: Chicago IL. | D. It will most likely be tied into the weekend that the tourney is in LaCrosse. Last year it was the same and they had 9+10 on sat and 8+7 on sunday. WI. Dnr said you can not have 2 tourney permits in the same pools same weekend last year. Dont know for sure tho, no official word yet. I know the feeling , I drove from Chicago to Genoa then down to Spring Valley. Around 700 miles to fish 90 from my house. Can you say ROAD TRIP!!!!!hehehehe

Member Posts: 118 | For those who I didn't get the info. about the cancellation, please accept my apologies. It was less than a stellar performance on my part. IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!!!! TENTATIVE--------TENTATIVE---------TENTATIVE----------TENTATIVE I have been working on the tournament re-schedule and am looking at changing the dates of the Genoa & LaCrosse tournaments to the weekend of Sept. 26 & 27. We have a number of WAT members who are fishing the FLW and they could potentially qualify for their championship which is Sept. 17 thru Sept. 19 which would be a conflict if I stayed at Sept. 19 & 20. I also thought of moving our tournaments to Sept 12 & 13 but found out that the FLW has a 200 boat Bass Tournament out of La Crosse that weekend. I have a call into the DNR (WI) to move our dates to Sept. 26 & 27. We would go out of Genoa on the 26th and fish pools 9 & 10. On the 27th we go out of LaCrosse and fish pools 7 & 8. Hope this is not too confusing!! Thanks Bill Brosnahan

Canecellation made from a desk???????????.... I also cancelled two days and hundreds of dollars of guide trips over on Petenwell based on the weather report. What was He supposed to do wait until wait until 25 minutes before the tourney and decide???? Then if the weather report was correct , put all the teams lives in danger trying to get home through a blizzard. He has already apologised below for not contacting folks as well as he should have..... give the gentleman a break. I have to assume you have never been a tournament director with comments like that, but having been one making decisions is extremely hard, and only one thing really matters... the teams safety. We can all be disappointed that a tourney doesn't happen , and our time and travel expenses are lost ... but what kind of person second guesses a safety call????? Lawrence Ecklor

Member Posts: 1188 Location: Chicago IL. | Thanks Lawrence. I got news for you. I was leaveing anyway on sat before the storm was going to hit. Its a 5-1/2 hr trip in good weather for me and I didnt want it to turn into a 12 hr one. Mine and my partner`s familys were not worth the risk. Walleye fisherman risk enough in the weather we fish in. I still say it was a good call.
