| Fished the evening and did pretty well below the float yesterday. Used a three-way with 2oz pencil sinker, #7 holographic green HESH floating rap stacked, with a chart/purple streamer fly following. Caught 25-30 fish - 50/50 on each bait, but most were sub legal to just 15". I also caught one bonus 6# northern pike on the fly. Pitched ring worms after dark and caught a few small fish off the rock downstream too. There still is lots of weeds coming down out of the lake, but the water is cleaning up quickly. The pool was 7.79 in height- a little high, but very fishable and within the banks.
Tight Lines,
Big D

Location: LaCrosse, WI | Well after several hours on the water, the bite was just OK. I did manage two nice throw backs. I had a 4.1 and a 4.3 and about 40 scrubs throughout the day. There were northerns everywhere as well.
The grossest catch of the day was the 18" lamprey I caught off the side of a Northern. It was rolling around on my line and sliming everything up. I sure was glad it came off the hook so I didn't have to touch it. The guy with me wanted to keep it so he could put it in his buddy's lunch box. What a surprise that would be.
I caught both of my better fish pitching to a sand flat. One came on plastic, and the other on a blade bait. I think the 4.1 was a male and the 4.3 was a pre-spawn (rock hard) female. |
