Member Posts: 1195 Location: Orland Park, IL | I decided I didnt want to work, and figured I would lurk, I didnt need a auger, to fish for sauger in the deep mississippi murk, The weather was fine, with some great sunshine, I wonder if it'd be too much, and put a call into Hutch, or just respool my leadcore line Tough to call, with the Playoff brawl, Could always count my crankbaits, As they are pretty close to my body weight, Maybe its a run to Cabelas at the mall? Now walleyes are fine almost as good as swine, but lets not forget as we sometimes get wet, when the high water calls for handline Well, its back to the grind, as I try to unwind, thinking of sauger, without the auger hoping I am of sound mind

Member Posts: 1195 Location: Orland Park, IL | Yep, I use the old Big Knob's recipe for sauger soup. ========================================== By Jeff Lampe out of the PJStar, 10/11/07 As you folks may or may not know, Dominic suffered an injury from falling out of his tree stand. He past away last month. ================================================ In memory of my old buddy Dominic “Big Knob” Culjan, here’s a recipe he once shared for sauger, reprinted from the March 21, 2004 edition of the Peoria Journal Star. So you’ve just caught a nice mess of Illinois River sauger. Now what? Veteran guide Dominic “Big Knob” Culjan of Utica is partial to sauger soup. First filet three sauger, making sure to remove the brownish mud vein. Then chunk the fish and sautee the pieces in a large sauce pan with a stick of butter. After sauteeing the fish, smash them up and set aside. In a separate pot boil two or three peeled potatoes that have been diced into half-inch squares. Pour some of the potato water into the sauce pot and add diced celery, mushrooms, a packet of Knorr’s Hollandaise Sauce, milk and heavy cream. Measurements vary according to taste. Next put fish and potatoes into the pot, mix well and simmer with the lid on. After 7-12 minutes your soup should be ready. “Then all you do is serve it, eat it and love it,” Culjan said. “I’ll eat three bowls in one sitting and walk around like a bloated little blimp.”

Just looked at the radar and seen the BLOB heading this way. One good thing, rain is not in the forcast for a week. It will all depend on how much we get. Forcast is 1.5-2.0 inches tonight and tommorrow.

Member Posts: 1195 Location: Orland Park, IL | Now I hear, I may be able to eat a sauger out of winnebago. Dont think thats gonna happen. I think its just too early to open a single fish bag limit. Otherwise not many options. Both illinois and mississippi pretty unfishable. At least for awhile. Looks like coho on the lakefront.
