The Pros all are very optimistic today, to a one expecting the bite to be stable or improve. The fish are on the move as they always are this time of the year, so the trick, according to interviews this morning, is finding the smaller spots where the big girls are staging or moving through. I saw about everything from Slow Death to Cranks to Jigs tied on rods this morning, so the total Mississippi River Spring presentation mix is still in play.

The weather looks ideal with clear skies, and a cool start to the day in the low 40's, headed for a high in the low 70's. The weigh in should begin at about 3 PM this afternoon, so stay tuned to WalleyeFIRST and catch all the action!

Interesting developments on day 2.

RICHARD ZACHOWSKI has opened the door for others to catch up. This will make for an interesting day 3.

Looking at the list of names in the top 20 and their weights, I predict some very interesting movements on day three with several anglers moving into the top ten while others miss the cut.

The angler of the year race looks like it may end up being a shoot out between TED TAKASAKI, PAT BYLE, and PERRY GOOD.

This will be an interesting one to watch.

The bite was definitely off from yesterday, due in large part according to the pros to a dropping water level and current changes as a result. None the less, a couple pros got into them pretty well, including Toyota Trucks Walleye Angler Rewards leader /Evinrude Pro Chris Gilman. Chris brought 25 pounds to the stage today to take over third. Randy Stevens weighed nearly as much at 24.19, adding enough to take over second. Richard Zachowski held his own with a fish short of a limit of smaller 'eyes to hold on to first with a 2 pound lead. Rich had some trouble getting to his fish today, but went to plan B and weighed in 12.31 pounds.

In fourth is Nick Johnson, fifth Ted Takasaki who made a significant move up today, sixth is Pat Byle, also sliding upward a considerable number of places, seventh is Barry Walker who's 22.63 weight today was enough to get into the top ten, eighth is Brett King, also a mover and shaker today, ninth is Scott Fairbairn, and tenth Robert Blosser.

It's going to be a barnburner tomorrow!

iceman,

The tourney is on the Mississippi River bordering WI and MN. As I understand it, the eyes are coming off the spawn. There are some areas, tributaries and backwaters, where the big girls tend to congregate to do their thing. They are now moving out of these areas and going on the feed as they disperse to their summer hangouts -- the guys with the big bags are locating these areas.

I've only fished the area a couple of times though; I'm sure some more experienced folks can correct me if I've got it wrong.

Iceman

it can be your best spot or your worst, Randy who is second place fished the league the weekend before and did terrible, he is a true river rat down there,

You name it is there, backwater, true river, wingdams, main channel, dam tail race, back chennel, Lake Pepin which fishes like a lake, tons of shad to compete with, the amount of sauger is incredible, i believe a new state record sauger came out this spring. 2 springs ago I hit it just right, 45# was our 5 best for the day, pitch jigs, draging jigs, vertical jigging.

During the summer some impresive trolling bites on the lake, rivals Erie
