Any Lowrance pros or HDS experts in the Oshkosh area? I would like some help optimizing my HDS5s.

Rippin Eyes, thanks for your offer to help.

1. I lose bottom quite often. It happens at 2 mph while trolling and it happens while running from spot to spot (35 mph). I have been running in shallow water (3 - 6 feet mostly).

2. When my graph starts up, it shows a nice brown bottom, then the bottom turns to black when running and you can't tell if you have a soft bottom or hard bottom.

3. I have never seen a fish arch.

4. When I hit the Wolf River mouth coming out of Lake Butte des Mortes, my gps cursor runs off the map. The map just ends.

When I installed the units, I ran all new wires back to the battery and soldered all joints. I have installed a transducer mounting board, so I can make adjustments as necessary. I can also send a photo of my tranducer mounting if that would help.

I'm hoping it is as simple as fine tuning the settings or repositioning the transducer.

Randy

Thanks again for your offer to help. I have downloaded the 2.5 upgrade, downloaded the 3.0 upgrade, set my unit to shallow water mode, but I still lose bottom. I checked the transducer setting and it said "unknows". I could not find a tag on my transducer. Is it on the transducer end, or the blue plug end? I don't want to start tearing it out again. How many transducer choices do are there for this unit? I purchased the units used, so I don't have the original boxes.

I entered the same transducer as in your video and it helped but it is not fixed. I still don't get a good bottom read in less than 9 feet of water. I am going to try repositioning the transducer to see if that helps.

Oh, and the upgrades did not fix the map issue going into Winneconne.

It appears to be on the blue plug end.
Take care,
