i have a 2001 tuffy osprey that has a factory built-in charger. my charger is a nautalis charger that is suppossed to turn off when batteries are fully recharged and it tells you that by blincking green lights. does going through the boat pluggin still let the charger know when the batteries are done or does it tell the charger to just keep on charging. last night the batteries were totally dead and i plugged them in at 4 am. its 5;30 pm and its still charging with bubbling going on. frankly i never had a battery that didn't bubble when charging so it doesn't bother me but i don't want to way-over charge them. what do you think? thanks

i ended up finding a bad connection on an inline breaker and finally the charger said they were fully charged but i think i need to update my charger to a newer multi-stage charger. thanks for all the help.

To answer your question: Yes. The rest is not exactly on point, but thought I'd throw this in. I was at a dealer the other day and the Interstate Battery guy was there. I asked him all about batteries. Here was my take away.
1) Not taking care of them is responsible for 99% of failures
2) Charge them slowly, fast charging generates heat. HEAT = BAD
3) Get a good charger, you get what you pay for. He did not suggest one brand, but said the dual or multi stage is the way to go to avoid overcharging
4) You can keep them in the cold, boat, garage, whatever, all winter, but charge them every two months.
5) If your water is low, don't add acid, just add water, he even said you don't need to bother with distilled or anything, just plain tap water.

YOU ALWAYS USE DISTILLED WATER. YOU COULD HAVE TAP WATER THAT HAS ALOT OF IRON IT THATS BAD, WILL RECK YOUR BATTERY

absolutely never add anything but distilled or DI water to a battery. I can guarantee you will ruin it!!!!

My thoughts on this are different... that is a 9 year old charger... might need replacing... Minn kota has great chargers...
