Subject: Is it worth it ?

I have a 18ft pro v and love my boat. However when i purchased the boat i got it equipped with a 115opti , and i really like the motor. The 115opti pushes the boat in the mid to high 40's and is VERY good on gas. The motor has also been trouble free . What would a 175opti do for speed and would it be worth it. thanks , Terry

I would guess mid 50's with the 175 so no, it would not be worth it.

The extra weight of a 175 could affect the ride of the boat as well. My previous boat was a 1900 Fisherman came with a 115 opti I thought it was too slow so after LOTS of negoation I had the dealer but a 150 opti on it and the ride went down the toliet. The extra rear weight made the bow ride up waves crashing into the next, With the lighter 115 the bow did a MUCH better job cutting waves rather than riding.

my experience with repowering boats is that you will really lose some money. enjoy the boat with the 115... take the $$$ you would spend on the new motor and go on a monster vacation!

Walleyehunter, Good question ! The boat /Motor had a stainless prop on from the factory when purchased . I never considered the prop because i just figure the factory knew the best settings . Sorry to say but i don't know pitch or diameter . I store my boat out of town but its very close and im willing to check . THANKS FOR YOUR TIME, Terry

Terry, sounds to me you got a good set up. A bigger motor would give you more power more speed. is it worth it?
bad side, more power more speed = more $$$$. This spring, get the boat out and check the prop. post here for suggestions. A good dealer should be able to let you try before you buy.
I wouldn't rely on a dealer to put on the best prop. been there, been upset.

A great resource for props is www.propgods.com ask for Ken great guy and knows more about props than anyone I know. He even has a swap program to make sure you get the right prop for your rig. Make sure your outboard is setup correctly on the hull before changing props though because an outboard too low will cause drag.
