I recently bought a 6' 3" St. Croix Legend Vertical Jigging Walleye Spinning rod and I am now trying to decide what reel to put on it. I am mainly looking to spend anywhere from $125 to $175 for the reel. I have been looking at the Shimano Stradic 1000, what do you guys think of the Stradics? What are some other good reels in that price range?

Thanks

The price is a bit less than that range, but I do know Pflueger Supreme matches very well with that rod. This is my favorite reel of all time. It's worth a look.

I tried my first stradic about 5 years ago and every spinning reel I have bought since is a stradic. I use Stradic 1000's with my vertical jigging rods. The reel is smooth, the drag is excellent and the reel balances nicely with my rods. I know there are other nice reels out there but as long as Stradic's are being made that is what I am buying. Good luck in your search!

I was a Stradic guy since the mid nineties. I had about a dozen of them. A buddy of mine insisted I try a a Daiwa Tierra. He gave me one to use for a weekend. I was sold instantly, and immediately purchased four of them, and have used nothing else since.

Thanks everyone for the helpful information so far.
Hombre Robusto - What did you like so much better about the Daiwa Tierra than the Shimano Stradic?

The reel is a lot smoother, the drag is smooth as silk, and it has a beefed up bail on it.

The Daiwas typically have a lower retrieve ratio, which I much prefer. Makes the reel seem smoother and there's less start up inertia when you're reeling. If you like the Tierra, you'll love the Fuego.

Pfleuger Presidents are great reels especially for the price.

I agree with the Pflueger praises I love em. I've got 2 presidents and a baitcaster trion and all work great and you could buy 2 of them for your price range.
