Has anyone seen this new list? Does this mean that anyone who guides on Lake Geneva has to have a Charter Captains License? Who will enforce this and what will be the fines? Great way to close more hardworking Americans businesses that are trying to keep a tradition alive!

Hi Rusty. If thats what they did, than yes you will need one. Coast Guard will enforce it. A guy was caught on the chain and it cost him $10,000. The CG will work with you if you already guide in the area. The problem is nobody takes them seriously and they blow it off. Dont quote me on it but I belive the CG has inland only/site only license. Not 100% sure on it tho.

As of last year, I know the limited license was discontinued. You will need an OUPV 6 Pack license to guide federal water ways.

I will agree that enforcement has been laxed for the most part, however the limited stories that I have heard of peole being busted, the coasties have not gone lightly on those. It bears taking seriously.

Really makes no sense. The lake is 7 1/2 miles long. You can't get "out of sight" unless somebody closes their eyes. The "unsafe" are catamarans and other ridiculously big boats for the lake. I know guides that have been working on that lake for "forever". Finally, it isn't like the CG doesn't have a lot better things to do. This is becoming absurd.

When I decided to start guideing, I looked at getting my capt lic as a part of doing the biz, because of the areas I`m working. There is alot more to the feds putting a lake on the feds list. It also means that the epa/water protection rules for the feds come with it. So its good in one way and not in another. If people think its a way for the coast guard to generate money, they are looking at it the wrong way.

Recieved an email from USCG and it stated that any navigable water in the USA is needed to have a 6 pack license to guide. Just passing on he info, I guess its time to spend the time and money and get the license.
