This guys has the mid 2000's Tiger Woods thing going. If you asked me to take KVD or the rest of the field I'd take KVD more often than not.

Member Posts: 625 Location: LaCrosse, WI | thumper - 2/22/2011 6:17 AM He's no Bill Dance..... :) It would be pretty hard to win 4 classics while always falling out of the boat or having his trolling motor fall off the front of the boat while in gear. There are some things we should all be thankful for. On the same note, thank God he's not Gillespe either. KVD actually acts like he's been there before. I also appreciate the fact that I've never seen him breakdance in the front of his boat or die and spike his hair and act like a complete moron every time he catches a fish.

Member Posts: 1040 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Or you could look at it the other way and say dang, he was doing something different or adjusted his presentation before anyone else. Being lucky he would have won by a pound or two, KVD won by 10 pounds in the same area as a dozen other guys, that's not luck, that's skill.

Member Posts: 1656 | Thumper skill and belief brought that fish in.....there's no secrets. I true dominant player goes out on his own and owns....owns the competoin wire to wire, every day.....KVD is not there in this instance....Good fisherman, but still won it in the middle of a pack. Luck is a benefactor.

Member Posts: 1040 Location: Stevens Point, WI | You don't think the changing weather conditions, the spawning ritual, or maybe the lack of practice the five days leading up to the first day played a role in why he didn't crush them on the first day like he did the third day? Pulling out 28 pounds on the final day and adding seven pounds to his overall lead goes to show you he was doing something a little different. You dont win by 10 pounds by doing the exact same thing as the other half dozen or more guys around you fishing a boat length apart. Perhaps it was his 21 years of experience and or the ability to keep cool in high pressure situations like the Classic where others haven't figured out how to step up to the next level. As I mentioned before, Martens, Remitz, Rook and others all said it in their final day press conference, he's on a different level right now, we are all striving to be at that level. I could go on and on about the different comments each of the guys said if you'd like.

Location: Rhinelander | KVD kicked fanny, and did so by putting on a clinic and winning with a record total and by 10 pounds. You were not there, you didn't talk with the rest of the Pros (including the Pros KVD beat nose to nose) or KVD...and we did. One thing Kevin does very well some may want to take a lesson from; humility and grace in action at all times; even after his second Classic win in a row AND even though he literally stomped the rest of the field. Define 'luck'. Kevin did what he did, did so convincingly, and has a habit of doing that when it counts; if that's 'luck' I don't see it working for very many other anglers out there. I feel he's one of the best Bass anglers on the planet right now. If you don't, fine, just say so reasonably.

KVD is a beast no doubt, but I just can't get enough when it comes to watching the footage. Not just of Kevin but everybody, the fish being caught, the long runs, the fish whistle, and all the on the water coverage. Zona and Sanders did a fantastic job as they always do. I wish there would have been two more days of action as I have watched it three times. Anyone else watch it multiple times... John Schneider

Member Posts: 1040 Location: Stevens Point, WI | I did. I watch each of the Elite events numerous times, picking up different stuff each time I watch. B.A.S.S. really has their gig dialed in and from what I've seen being at the last two Classics, they cover all media fronts, doing each to a very high standard in my opinion. A lot of people were disappointed in not having same weekend TV coverage of the Classic like past years. However, since ESPN's decision to cease all outdoor programming and sell B.A.S.S., their role has certainly changed and did not surprise me that the decision to not air it live was made. I can only imagine the cost to bring live coverage would be and without ESPN footing the bill, it was probably a pretty easy decision for the new owners. Even without the same day TV coverage, B.A.S.S. certainly stepped it up on the internet side of things and did it very well.

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | I've watched it multiple times as well and agree not having it on ESPN on the same weekend sucked. I did however, watch it live as it happend on the website and saw firsthand that KVD kicked tail with class and dignity. I think that is a bigger draw for most than him being the best bass angler on the planet, if he was a pompous a-hole then I don't think he'd have near the following or success that he has had. Even as a die hard walleye guy, it's hard not to watch what BASS and FLW put out there on the bass tours, as TJ said, it's light years ahead of the walleye guys and is somethign special to watch. Almost makes me want to grab a flippin stick and tie on a jig and hit up some sloughs off Bago.........almost!

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Was I the only one who thought the conversation between Aaron Martens and KVD was ..... let's say just a bit awkward? Watched it twice and will watch it again What I saw was 2 anglers (Aaron Martens and KVD) who knew exactly where those stumps were. They had them marked on their gps and they visualized where they were underwater. (Thus the comment, we keep running into each other at this same spot). Outcome would have been closer if Aaron would not have missed those 2 pigs.

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | You guys are too funny! But you forgot about the cut off t-shirt and skoal can. Yeah, feel bad for Aaron Martens, to finish 2nd four times has got to get into a guys head I would think. I almost wanted him to win it just because of that, but after the lead KVD built on Saturday I think it was a foregone conclusion who would win. Kind of like the old Tiger Woods with a Sunday lead at a golf tournament. KVD is on fire right now and I wouldn't be surprised to see him take AOY again along with winning another 2-3 events this year. Maybe T Manson can take him down this year!
