The information below is straight from the AKC, Labrador Club and UKC websites. I for one, do not condone promoting "designer dogs" such as labradoodles or goldendoodles, or colors, such as white or silver labs. The breeders who are promoting these are not adhering to the breed standards set by either the Labrador Retriever Club, Inc., (see http://www.thelabradorclub.com) or the AKC. I believe it is the parent club which sets the breed standard, so the AKC cannot change the standard unless the parent club does. The LRC's position on silver labs is on their site. I really don't think that in a few years silvers will be recognized, as the club does not recognize it as a lab color. From the AKC website: "Color The Labrador Retriever coat colors are black, yellow and chocolate. Any other color or a combination of colors is a disqualification. A small white spot on the chest is permissible, but not desirable. White hairs from aging or scarring are not to be misinterpreted as brindling. Black--Blacks are all black. A black with brindle markings or a black with tan markings is a disqualification. Yellow--Yellows may range in color from fox-red to light cream, with variations in shading on the ears, back, and underparts of the dog. Chocolate--Chocolates can vary in shade from light to dark chocolate. Chocolate with brindle or tan markings is a disqualification. " "Disqualifications 1. Any deviation from the height prescribed in the Standard. 2. A thoroughly pink nose or one lacking in any pigment. 3. Eye rims without pigment. 4. Docking or otherwise altering the length or natural carriage of the tail. 5. Any other color or a combination of colors other than black, yellow or chocolate as described in the Standard. " "Eye color should be brown in black and yellow Labradors, and brown or hazel in chocolates. Black, or yellow eyes give a harsh expression and are undesirable." the UKC standard: Color Color may be solid black, any solid shade of yellow from red to pale cream, or any solid shade of chocolate. Yellow dogs may have variations in shading on the ears, back and underside of the dog. A small white spot on the chest is permissible but not preferred. White hairs from aging or scarring should not be penalized. Disqualifications: Any color or combination of colors other than described above; albinism. EYES - The eyes are medium sized and somewhat triangular in appearance, but never so much as to give a hard expression. Eye color is brown in black and yellow dogs, and brown or hazel in chocolates. Eyelids are close fitting, and eye rims match nose pigment. Expression is kindly and intelligent. Faults: Yellow eyes; eyes too dark; eyes too small or too round and prominent; eyes set too close together; eyes protruding or too deep set; any feature that detracts from the correct Labrador expression.

Member Posts: 397 Location: Badgerland | Sorry for your loss.... only dog owners truly understand what you have been going through the last few days. Damn labs can't keep nothing out of there mouths and not eat it, of the three my oldest 12yr old has undergone surgery twice for this. I believe he will be there when you get up there, if not I will be disapointed in the Lord. Edited by 620 4/25/2011 4:06 PM

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Rich. I'm very sorry for your loss. Our labs share our home and live with us in it like children. I've often thought about all the labs I've owned over the years. Many times with tears working their way into my eyes when thinking of the many trips afield we took or simply those special or funny episodes we shared. I've been taught that animals do not have souls, yet the unconditional love and loyality they show us even in the hardest of times, makes me even sader that I'll never see any of them again on this earth or anywhere else. Each one of their short lives is only a snippit taken from our much longer lives. But each dog remains as much a lasting testament and memorial to each of those short times as any human friends I've ever had. ![]() Edited by walleye express 4/26/2011 9:44 AM Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | Thanks a lot guys. The responses, PM's and emails are vey much appreciated more then you can imagine. It is amazing how much pain can be felt over a loss like this. I had no clue it would effect me as much as it has. We have a busy next few months with tournaments and my wife doing a missions trip to Belize in July. When she gets back we are going to start looking for a new puppy. It will be another lab. I will post pics then of the new addition. This will give us time to grieve as well. Thank you all very much for the kind words.
