With the cold front still dominating the northern Minnesota atmosphere, there was a chill in the morning air, but day two attitudes were still hot and ready to rip some lips. It was noticeably cooler this morning than it has been in a couple weeks leaving many of the anglers wondering how long their bite or pattern will last.

"This weather has been interesting, but as always you still have to fish," says The Next Bite TV host, Keith Kavajecz. "Today I plan on sticking to the same plan I was on yesterday, which was really not much of a plan. I am bouncing around from spot to spot watching my electronics and setting up on fish I come across. It has been working so far and I am confident we can put together another limit today."

"Its been a tough bite for a lot of anglers, but as with any tournament consisting of the best walleye anglers on the planet, there will always be a few guys who are really on them," says Lund Mercury Pro, Ted Takasaki. "I did not have the day I wanted yesterday. I caught a lot of fish but they were nearly all within the slot making it very difficult to put a limit together. I had numerous fish that were an eighth of an inch too short, or too big. The slot is getting a lot of guys, but its testament to a quality fishery when you are seeing such good numbers of healthy fish in that range. I am on big fish today swinging for the fence, I am confident we will get the job done."

With rain and cooler temps in the forecast, a day similar to yesterday can be expected. There will be several good limits, a few limits of shorts, and the rest will most likely be bags of twos and threes. The time of year and the quality of fishery that exists here at Leech will typically yield some impressive fish, but as was stated yesterday, Leech Lake walleyes move around a lot and the angler who can stay ahead of them will get bit.

Weigh in will commence at 3 PM at Walker City Park, which is right along Highway 371 in Walker, Minnesota. Be sure to check back this afternoon for an evening report, images, and video.

The bite definitely got better here on Leech Lake in Walker, Minnesota. More of the anglers weighed fish and the average bag certainly increased. That could be due to the conditions improving as the rain that was forecasted did not show up, or it could also be due to the anglers really pursing the bigger fish. Its cut off day and now is the time where you either go big or you go home. The top ten anglers were determined and the final day is sure to be a shoot out!

"I expect my pattern to hold for the final day," says day one leader, Mark Courts. "We put together a very respectable limit today and I fully expect much of the same tomorrow. Unfortunately I was bumped down to third place, but the difference is minimal and the spots I am fishing are holding the winning fish. It will be close!"

Day two leader, Kevin Carstensen produced an impressive bag and managed to nail down the first spot. He talked about the conditions improving and the weather being a primary factor in his success. But, interestingly enough, he noticed an interesting factor that was actually improving his catch rate substantially. We'll won't let the cat out of the bag yet, but I can assure you it is a surprising one!

"As soon as the sun would come out, our bites would slow down drastically," Carstensen said. "We tried to time our efforts to coincide with traveling during sunny periods and keep our lines out when it was overcast. These fish are finicky on this lake, but if you can nail down their pattern you can really catch a bunch. I am confident in my spot for tomorrow, but its so close its anybody's ball game at this point."

The final day take off will remain at the same place, the Walker City Park boat launch. The final weigh in will take place just up the road at the Northern Lights Casino at 3:30 PM.

Leech in my opinion is the most diverse lake in MN. It has amazing multispecies fishing and I think why the pros love it is cause you can catch walleyes using such a variety of techniques. The lake is around 110,000 acres and consists of the main lake which in mainly shallow and then walker bay which is deep and clear. The main lake has many shallow sand flats that turn on in with the wind and also expansive weed beds that hold fish at all times as well. In the middle of the main lake is Pelican island which is rocky and surounded by numerous rock reefs. Walker bay is shallow to the north and deep to the south with many humps that come up to 20-40ft out of surounding water that is 80-150+ feet deep. A lot of the pros are fishing the humps and steep shoreline breaks of walker bay to catch the big overs althoug there are big fish all over the lake. At any one time there can and usually are many patterns producing on leech and that's what makes it fun. You can catch fish jigging, rigging, pulling cranks or spinner all in the same day if you wanted and there are endless locations to find fish. If you have a chance to spend some time there I'd reccomend it and the Walker area is great as well.

Forgot to mention the slot....all fish between 18-26" have to be put back and there is a four fish limit.
