You eating those eelpout? I never did until about 10 years ago. Can't remember who had me try them. Prepared them right on the ice.
Pretty good when done as poorman's lobster.

I've been told over-&-over they're good eating. I just can't get past the slime and the ugly to actually keep and clean one. Maybe one of these days I'll run out of real fish and get desperate enough to try one.

They are fun to catch, especially the bigger ones. Once you get them on the ice though, they're a pain in the butt -- they flop around and tangle everything in their wake and it's hard to get hook out of their soft mouths, I end up breaking about 50% of the hooks while trying to remove them.
