| New HDS software update available worldwide for download on Wednesday, April 20
The new 4.0 software is a free download from the Lowrance website and is recommended for all HDS multi- function displays worldwide.
Key HDS Update Enhancements
Performance Improvements – HDS 4.0 provides users with faster boot time, improved key response, charting speed improvements and system stability improvements.
Ease of Use – HDS 4.0 includes several new enhancements to make HDS units easier to use. HDS-8 and -10 users can program up to six of their favorite screens using the quick access keys. In addition, HDS-5 and -7 users now can show chart or traditional sonar images with side-scan views and DownScan ImagingTM in a three- panel display option. Other improvements include:
Auto-detection of chart cards with user option to activate Setup wizard for HDS optimization Quick toggle of Insight mapping contour lines
Sonar Improvements – HDS 4.0 software provides better sonar performance, including: Less interference from trolling motors Improved noise rejection overall Faster high-speed recovery

| Do the previous updates need to be installed prior to the 4.0? I have a HDS-5 (1 yr. old) that I haven't done anything to, use it for a bow-mount. Never got around to doing the update that came out last year. Kind of a "not-broke" situation, so I didn't fix it. |

| Frank i was told you do not have to download last update it is included with 4.0 |

| I am having problems trying to get this update on my hds, i am having problems getting the update from the computer to the graphs, what do you use to download the updates on Do you use your lake map chips, or use a memory card like one you would use in a camera to save pics would that would work? thanks |

| Instructions from the Lowrance Website
Copy the update to your SD/MMC card:
1. Make sure the SD/MMC card reader is properly connected to your computer (and, if necessary, that the drivers are installed).
2. Insert a blank SD/MMC card that is 512MB or larger into the SD/MMC card reader.
3. Transfer the HDS 4.0 software files to your SD/MMC card.
Installing the update on your HDS (all units except HDS-5x):
1. Turn your Lowrance HDS unit off.
2. Place the SD/MMC card containing the updated operating software in the unit's SD/MMC card tray.
3. Turn your HDS unit on. The software update will automatically install.
4. After the install is complete, remove the SD/MMC card from the unit, and restart the unit.

| Just finally after 4 days getting the new 4.0 update on an SD card. Lowrance says the demand is so great, that you will probably have trouble. Just keep trying. Also, if the SD card doesn't automatically load when you put it in the Lowrance unit. Format the SD card and try again.......thus 4 days. Good luck, and be patient, it works.  |

| 4 days to complete the upgrade for my HDS? Good to know I'm halfway there then.
What a pain in the butt this process is, and I've got 2 units to upgrade!! |

| So big K, you still got that update on a card?? I could use it. I'm not real techy, kids don't give me enough time for anything. Shoot me a PM if I can borrow it. |

| Did mine in about 45 minutes, 2 units and first time upgrade. Everything worked perfect. then again i'm familiar with putors. Reading on other sites and some other post on this site i have to wonder if the problems poeple have has more to do with there operating sytems and general lack of knowledge with computors than the lowrance product.  |

| Anyone can do it in less than 10minutes once the software is loaded on sdc card . thats the easy part |

Location: Berlin | Well, finally got mine updated. What a difference. I know longer have the "strong" urge to throw it overboard. Way faster, updates the track like it should and moves from page to page slightly faster as well. Thanks guys! |
