Location: Neenah, WI | Sorry Kirt, My experience with Lowrance has left a bad taste in my mouth. The last one I bought broke down and so did the replacement. Then I got the old story that they don't make it anymore and it was out of warranty after 2 seasons. And then the phone went dead. I'll pass.

| Switched back to Lowrance I didn't like the performance of the Humminbird, much happier with Lowrance. And they had some issues also.
Thats to bad, electronics are ever evolving, I bought a HP Laptop that lasted a 1 1/2 yrs and died, it cost me more to fix the old one than to buy a new one and the old one was basically outdated when compared to the new stuff. It will be interesting to see what happens when Humminbird units start to get a few years on them and they start having issues when out of warranty, then what? I had a 1197 and then they came out with the 1198 a month later!
Competition drives companies to continue to improve their products over the competition. I work for one of the largest HVAC companies in the world, thats what keeps us ahead of the competition. |

| 3 years and the screen is going on my HDS-8. And its a replacement. For 1800$ 3 years ago... I'm gonna try and get it replaced where I bought it. For the limited time I fish, waste of money. Big screen is nice for GPS though. My old X-15 on the trolling motor takes a beating up front... still a monster deep water sonar!!
I'm sure you'll run into problems with both brands. From my observations: the more you spend on marine electronics the more input needed from owner. but when you get it dialed in... It's Tebow time!! |
